Senior Engineering and Design Lead

Join us as a Senior Engineering and Design Lead within the Application Platforms team at Barclays where youll spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure transformation, driving innovation and excellence. Youll harness cutting-edge technology to revolutionise our infrastructure offerings, ensuring un-paralleled application and developer experiences. As a Lead with technical authority youll be expected to represent the team, driving technical direction to ensure the team is meeting the requirements of customers, partners and stakeholders. Youll have a technically curious mindset, a passion for learning new things and a willingness to impart your knowledge across the organisation. Youll be in meetings, building relationships to collaborate and work together to get things done. Some days will be coding, and others will be refining documents and technical diagrams. Theyll be a drive for the team to commit code and youll be at the front of this culture change, driving IaC and automation into everything the team does. To be successful as a Senior Engineering and Design Lead, you should have experience with: Deep understanding of Kubernetes and Containers using modern development tools and languages.Strong analytical/problem solving mind set with the ability and willingness to get into the details to find solutions.
Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decision-making across the organisation with both technical and non-technical partners.Interpersonal, communication, presentation and influencing skills.
Engineering and automation mindset with a desire to make Barclays infrastructure more efficient, developer friendly, simple, and easy to use and consume. Evidence of leading on detailed design for enterprise level platforms/solutions. Some other highly valued skills may include:

• Experience in an enterprise technology environment.
• Formal external qualification/accreditation in technology or in a company equivalent technical programme.
• Experience or knowledge of public cloud services used to support and manage containers and container platforms.

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required with the aim of ensuring that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure. Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through the application of software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response.

Accountabilities

• Build Engineering: Development, delivery, and maintenance of high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Including the identification of the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements.
• Incident Management: Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages. Use of data to drive down mean time to resolution.
• Automation: Development and implementation of automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising software scripting/coding disciplines.
• Security: Implementation of a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorised access.
• Teamwork: Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data driven approach.
• Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organizations technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
