Research Scientist Bioprocessing

Position Purpose

The role holder shall perform research activities as designing and conducting Fermentation/Purification and Biotransformation related scientific experiments, analyzing and interpreting results leading to significant value to the business of PI. The role holder shall also functionally guide a Project Team of scientists to carry out designing of experiments for microbial fermentation products developed through recombinant bacteria/yeast/fungi also prepare enzymatic routes for the desired bioconversions; in accordance with the project timelines and objectives with allocated resources. The role holder shall also support Team leaders/Group Leader in the general operations within the function.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic

Efficient contribution to the overall success of Process R&D Biotechnology by driving innovation and team performance according to objectives and targets being set by the Director of Biotechnology.

Ensuring the security of intellectual property for R&D (patent applications, ensuring freedom-to-operate).

Remain at the cutting edge of knowledge required for the new a.i. in crop protection through constant updating of personal knowledge and skill-sets using various means.

As part of a Group, support the Subordinates / Group Leader with special focus on target setting, development of strengths, building of knowhow and functional feedback for team members.

Operational

Work with the team to achieve and exceed targets within the frame given by the Team Leader / Group Leader and Director of Biotechnology.

Support Team Leader / Group Leader and Director of Biotechnology in achieving overall department objectives.

Keep self and Team updated on the state of the art in Biotechnology development and techniques with specific focus on Molecular Biology, and foster innovation.

Continuous documentation and reporting of all research results obtained within the area of responsibility.

Carrying out literature search by use of all available tools Minitab/Other data analytical tools eg. contribute actively to designing & executing the experiments in Fermentation process development of Proteins/Enzymes & Small molecules of Microbial fermentation products also design methods for enzymatic routes for the desired bioconversions at lab scale / Pilot scale.

Experienced in fermentation/Purification process development for Small Molecules & Enzymes from different microbial platforms such as ( Bacterial/Fungal/Yeast)

Experienced in Bioconversion process development to increase assay & yield throughput

Experienced in critical Impurity reductions / characterizations at fermentation & Purification scale to develop cost effective process

Experienced in POC studies & scale up approaches from lab scale to pilot scale to production scale & subsequently scale down modules for the same.

Experienced in troubleshooting of the process & Tech transfer at different scales

Experienced in relevant document preparations like process Development Reports , Manufacturing formula records

Responsible for the Team safety, documentation and reports.

Carrying out literature search by use of available tools (Sci-finder/Patents etc.)

People

Actively imbibing the values and philosophy of PI and act as a committed ambassador of PI Brand.

Ensure smooth working of the team by maintaining high level of morale and working ethics.

Participate in selection of high caliber team members.

Support the Team Leader / Group Leader to set goals and review performance of team members.

Train and mentor team members.

Additional Accountabilities

Maintain healthy working relationships with the related teams and departments in R&D.

Responsible for team safety, lab safety and housekeeping of the lab.

Act as a committed ambassador of PI Brand.
