Job Description: Procurement Lead Solar Industry

Position Overview:
The Procurement Lead in the solar industry is responsible for overseeing and managing the procurement processes, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, equipment, and services required for solar projects. This role demands strong expertise in supplier management, market trends, and cost optimization while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement Strategy and Planning:

• Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with organizational goals and project timelines.
• Collaborate with engineering, project management, and finance teams to understand project-specific requirements.
• Conduct market analysis to identify potential suppliers and assess supply chain risks.

Supplier Management:

• Identify, evaluate, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery standards.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure long-term partnerships.
• Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to delivery, quality, or pricing.

Cost Management:

• Negotiate favourable terms and pricing agreements with suppliers to optimize procurement budgets.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings through alternative sourcing, volume discounts, or innovative solutions.
• Track and report on procurement costs against budgets and forecast
• Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to project sites.

Compliance and Sustainability:

• Ensure all procurement activities comply with legal, regulatory, and company standards.
• Promote sustainable procurement practices, including sourcing renewable or eco-friendly materials.
• Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and technological advancements.

Team Leadership:

• Lead and mentor the procurement team to build expertise and improve operational efficiency.
• Set performance goals and provide regular feedback to team members.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the procurement function.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Background:

• Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
• A Masters degree or certifications like CPM (Certified Procurement Manager) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) is a plus.

Experience:

• 12+ years of experience in procurement, preferably in the renewable energy or construction industry.
• Proven track record in managing procurement for large-scale solar projects or similar industries.

Key Competencies:

• Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
• Deep understanding of solar industry supply chains, including photovoltaic (PV) modules, inverters, and mounting systems.
• Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and regulatory requirements in the solar industry.
