Job Overview: The MYP Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the effective implementation, management, and development of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) at the school. This includes ensuring that the curriculum aligns with the standards and practices of the International Baccalaureate (IB), promoting a culture of continuous improvement, and supporting both teachers and students in achieving their academic goals. The MYP Coordinator plays a critical role in facilitating professional development, curriculum planning, and assessment strategies, as well as maintaining communication between staff, students, and parents.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Management and Development:
Oversee the implementation of the MYP curriculum framework, ensuring alignment with IB guidelines and local/national educational standards.
Ensure consistency in the teaching and assessment of all MYP subjects, promoting the IB philosophy of inquiry-based learning.
Work with subject heads and teachers to develop interdisciplinary units, ensuring alignment with the MYP's global contexts and key concepts.
Regularly review and update the curriculum in response to feedback, assessments, and evolving educational best practices.
Leadership and Staff Support:
Provide professional development and training opportunities for MYP teachers, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
Collaborate with teachers to support effective teaching practices and facilitate the sharing of ideas and resources.
Conduct regular observations and provide feedback to teachers to ensure high-quality teaching and learning in the MYP.
Serve as a mentor for new and existing MYP teachers, guiding them in the implementation of IB principles.
Assessment and Reporting:
Coordinate and oversee the assessment strategy within the MYP, ensuring that assessment practices are in line with IB expectations.
Manage internal and external assessments, including the moderation process for personal projects and e-portfolios.
Analyze assessment data to support the improvement of teaching and student outcomes.
Ensure that progress reports are accurate, timely, and reflective of MYP assessment standards.
Communication and Coordination:
Act as the primary point of contact for all MYP-related matters within the school community.
Liaise with parents, students, and teachers to ensure understanding of the MYP curriculum and assessment processes.
Represent the school at IB workshops, conferences, and other professional development events related to MYP.
Ensure clear communication between the MYP team and the senior leadership team regarding the programmes development, challenges, and successes.
Student Support:
Foster a student-centered learning environment by supporting students in their academic, social, and emotional growth.
Provide guidance to students on the MYP Personal Project, ensuring that they understand the requirements and have the resources to succeed.
Monitor student performance and work with teachers, parents, and counselors to address any concerns.
Compliance and Accreditation:
Ensure that the school remains fully compliant with IB standards and practices, preparing for IB evaluations and accreditation visits.
Keep up to date with changes in the IB curriculum and global education trends, integrating these into the schools MYP practices.
Prepare and submit required documentation for the MYP evaluation and re-accreditation process.
