Principal SDET - iOS/Android Automation

Job Summary:As a Principal SDET specializing in mobile automation, you will be a key contributor to ensuring the quality of our Public Safety Suite for mobile (iOS and Android) platforms. With a focus on high performance, reliability, and scalability, you will lead the testing efforts to deliver an exceptional experience for end-users. Working closely with development, product, and other stakeholder teams, you will help create robust, scalable automation frameworks and execute rigorous testing to ensure the stability and reliability of our SaaS services on mobile devices.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop and drive test strategies, test plans, and schedules for mobile applications based on project requirements, ensuring comprehensive test coverage for iOS and Android platforms.
• Design, build, and maintain robust and scalable mobile test automation frameworks and scripts that validate the functionality, performance, and scalability of our applications across mobile devices.
• Integrate mobile automation tests into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring seamless deployment and feedback cycles.
• Establish and uphold best practices in mobile testing, including code reviews, test case creation, and defect management processes.
• Identify, document, and track software defects, perform complex root cause analysis, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize and resolve issues.
• Monitor test execution on real devices and simulators/emulators, analyze test results, and report quality metrics and readiness assessments to stakeholders.
• Lead debugging of test failures and help diagnose root causes, especially within multi-component, distributed systems.
• Foster a culture of quality, advocating for continuous improvement in mobile testing methodologies and processes.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members in best practices for mobile testing and software development.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives in automation strategies and testing processes for mobile platforms.

Responsibilities

Required Qualifications:

• Education: BE/ME in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: 8+ years in software QA with a focus on mobile (iOS/Android) testing, including testing distributed systems.
• Mobile Automation Frameworks: Proficiency in mobile testing frameworks such as Appium, Espresso (Android), XCUITest (iOS), and familiarity with Detox for React Native applications.
• Programming Skills: Strong knowledge of languages like Java, Kotlin, Swift, or JavaScript for mobile testing; proficiency in Python or Shell scripting for test automation is a plus.
• CI/CD Integration: Experience with integrating mobile automation tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Bitrise, or GitLab CI.
• Cloud and Containerization: Understanding of cloud infrastructure, especially as it relates to SaaS; familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes is an advantage.
• Testing Tools and APIs: Hands-on experience with test development infrastructure such as TestNG, Junit, and API testing tools like Postman, REST Assured, and SoapUI.
• Source Control: Experience with source control tools like Git and Bitbucket, with proficiency in branching and merging strategies.
• Device Management: Familiarity with device management and cloud-based device labs, such as BrowserStack for comprehensive test coverage across devices.
• Agile Practices: Comfortable working in an agile environment, with experience in distributed teams.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, a strong sense of ownership, and a passion for building and maintaining quality mobile applications that scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with mobile-specific performance testing and monitoring tools like Firebase Performance Monitoring, Charles Proxy, or Crashlytics.
• Familiarity with GraphQL and RESTful APIs for backend integration.
• Experience with AI/ML-driven test automation solutions is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience debugging complex issues across distributed systems.
