Excel Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Excel Engineer with a strong background in developing Excel add-ins and plugins. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience building Excel add-ins using modern technologies and a deep understanding of Excels object model, APIs, and integration frameworks. This role requires expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, C#/.NET, and VBA, as well as a strong grasp of Office JavaScript API, VSTO, and OpenXML SDK.

The role will involve building and optimizing Excel add-ins that integrate with enterprise financial systems, ensuring seamless data handling, automation, and user experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Excel add-ins using JavaScript/TypeScript (Office Add-ins) and C#/.NET (VSTO/COM Add-ins).
• Implement Excel Object Model interactions to manipulate workbooks, worksheets, ranges, and formulas.
• Develop secure and efficient integrations with external data sources, APIs, and databases.
• Optimize performance of add-ins, ensuring seamless handling of large datasets and complex calculations.
• Ensure add-ins adhere to best practices for UI/UX, using Fluent UI / Office UI Fabric for a polished user experience.
• Debug and troubleshoot Excel plugin issues, utilizing tools such as Chrome DevTools, Visual Studio Debugger, and Office JavaScript API tools.
• Work with the OpenXML SDK for programmatic manipulation of Excel files.
• Implement authentication and security measures, including OAuth, to securely connect with external services.
• Stay up to date with Microsoft Office add-in development trends and recommend improvements.
• Deploy and manage add-ins via AppSource, SharePoint, MSI installers, or network shares.

Requirements

• Proven experience in developing and deploying Excel add-ins (must have built at least one production-level Excel plugin).
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript for modern Office Add-ins.
• Expertise in C# / .NET for VSTO and COM-based Excel add-ins.
• Experience with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) for Excel automation.
• Deep knowledge of the Excel Object Model and Office JavaScript API.
• Familiarity with OpenXML SDK for Excel file manipulation.
• Experience with SQL, PowerQuery, or PowerPivot for advanced data analytics integrations.
• Knowledge of OAuth authentication and security best practices for API integrations.
• Strong debugging and performance optimization skills.
• Experience working with financial, accounting, or enterprise reporting systems is a plus.
• Knowledge of Python for Excel automation (pyxll or xlwings) is a bonus.
