Lead- Payroll Accountant

We are hiring for the role of Lead Payroll Accountant

In this role, you will have to manage end-to-end payroll processes and ensure accurate payroll accounting. You should have expertise in payroll compliance, statutory filings, payroll reconciliation, and accounting systems, contributing to seamless payroll operations and accurate financial reporting.

The responsibilities we entrust you with:

Payroll Accounting:

1. Prepare and maintain payroll journals, reconciliations, and provisions in line with accounting standards.
2. Post accurate entries for salary, benefits, and statutory deductions (PF, ESI, PT, etc.) in financial systems.
3. Work with finance teams to ensure payroll-related costs are correctly allocated.
4. Automate payroll accounting processes, where applicable, in collaboration with tech teams.
5. Coordinate with auditors for payroll-related audits and ensure compliance with their requirements.

Candidate should be aware about Payroll Processing as well:

1. Process payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy in earnings, deductions, and compliance with statutory requirements.
2. Validate employee data, including joining, exit, promotions, and salary revisions, in payroll systems.
3. Manage variable pay elements like incentives, bonuses, and leave encashments through the salary register.
4. Handle Full & Final (F&F) settlements, gratuity, and leave encashments in compliance with company policies.
5. Collaborate with HR for timely updates on employee changes impacting payroll.
6. Resolve employee queries related to payroll discrepancies.
7. Ensure timely salary disbursement while adhering to company policies and deadlines.

Statutory Compliance:

1. Ensure timely payments and filings of statutory dues such as EPF, ESI, PT, TDS, LWF, and gratuity.
2. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of labor laws, tax regulations, and compliance standards.
3. Manage any escalations or discrepancies related to statutory payments or filings.

Reporting & Analysis:

1. Generate payroll reports, including headcount, leave balances, overtime, and cost analysis.
2. Prepare monthly payroll variance reports and provide insights to management.

What matters in this role

Technical Skills:

• Advanced skills in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
• Familiarity with accounting systems like Oracle, SAP.

Soft Skills:

• Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
• Problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive employee information with confidentiality.

Years of work experience:

• 3-5 years of experience in payroll processing and payroll accounting roles.
• Experience in managing multi-entity payroll operations is preferred.
• Qualification:
• Bachelors degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
• Professional certifications such as CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or equivalent are a plus.
