Job Description

Job Purpose


This role plays a crucial role in optimizing respiratory function, improving quality of life, and promoting independence for patients with pulmonary conditions. The physiotherapist will coordinate with the Centre Head.

Key Accountabilities


Accountability ClusterMajor Activities / Tasks

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and assessments to evaluate respiratory function, strength, endurance, and mobility in patients with respiratory conditions like asthma, COPD, etc.
  • Identify potential risk factors for complications and develop strategies for minimizing them.

Treatment and Rehabilitation

  • Assess patients with pulmonary conditions through detailed history-taking, physical examinations, and interpretation of diagnostic tests.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on the assessment findings, focusing on improving lung function, promoting airway clearance, and enhancing respiratory muscle strength.
  • Implement respiratory rehabilitation programs aimed at optimizing functional capacity and improving quality of life for patients with chronic respiratory diseases.
  • Monitor patients' response to therapy, adjust treatment interventions as needed, and educate patients and their families about self-management strategies and lifestyle modifications.
  • Provide emotional support and counselling to patients coping with respiratory symptoms, breathing difficulties, and chronic lung diseases, and providing compassionate care.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Foster open communication and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and caregivers to promote adherence to treatment regimens and continuity of care.
  • Communicate effectively with clinicians, technicians, nurses, to coordinate patient care and treatment plans.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss patient progress, set goals, and address barriers to rehabilitation.
  • Address psychosocial factors, nutritional needs, and socioeconomic challenges impacting patients' respiratory health.


Major Challenges

  • Adhere to regulatory requirements and standards set forth by relevant governing bodies.
  • Collaborate with staff to maintain an efficient workflow and ensure the smooth pulmonary physiotherapy service operation.
  • Periodically interact with clinical heads to discuss problems in patient care and develop mitigation plan.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and sanitation standards to prevent the spread of infections.
  • Effective communication with patients in order to ensure adherence to prescribed treatment plan.
