The Giving Engineering Team oversees several of PayPals flagship products, such as the Donate button, Donate API, Consumer Giving, PayPal Fundraisers, Give at Checkout, Disaster Campaigns, Charities, Charity Compliance, Charity Experience, Partner Fundraising, Grants Payout, and Partner Experiences.

Job Description:

Your way to impact:

You need to be dynamic, collaborative and curious as we build new experiences, improve existing products and develop distributed systems powering the world s largest e-commerce and payments websites at a scale few companies can match.

Your day to day:

As a key member of our team, you ll estimate engineering efforts, design, implement and test your changes, prioritize projects and triage production issues.

Design elegant, scalable solutions and maintain documentation.
Collaborate closely with other teams to solve complex problems.
Guide and mentor other developers in the team.
Develop code sufficiently supported by high quality tests.
Review code written by others and provide constructive feedback.
Deploy and maintain code using PayPal s Devops pipeline.
Participate in triaging and mitigating production issues.
Participate in scrum meetings and provide leadership in improving the execution rhythms.

What do you need to bring:

Bachelor/Master degree in Computer Science related technical discipline.
3-5 years hands-on experience.
Excellent problem solving abilities.
Java, OO-based design and development.
Design and implementation of microservices.
Proven track record working with real-world projects, solid understanding of software development/delivery lifecycle.
Development experience with high-traffic backend services.
Direct experience with concepts such as SOA, REST APIs, message-based communication.
Understand concepts around concurrency and transactions.
Understand distributed systems concepts like SLAs, consistency, data durability, message persistence and idempotency.
Architecture principles for SOA, Event Driven and Large Scale Systems.
Strong skills in Server Side Java, Spring, SpringBoot, Hibernate, REST, Maven, Github and other open source Java Libraries.
Experience with Kafka/RabbitMQ (or any message broker) as well hands-on with containerization (Docker) is a plus.
Good grasp of Data structures & Algorithm concepts.
Database design, programming, tuning and query optimization.
Test methodologies and testing tools, e.g., TestNG, JUnit.
Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
Experience in software configuration management and streaming strategies for large parallel development teams.
Ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams across time zones is essential.
Strong verbal and writing skills; ability to thoroughly understand product specifications, and ability to produce clear, concise documentation.
Understanding of processes and standards from compliance standpoint.
Project planning ability, experience in managing small development teams.
Experience with GitHub, Jira.
Comfortable with Agile and Scrum

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD).
Experience with DevOps tools and practices including CI/CD, and Observability
