Manager, Software Development

Blockchain, Crypto and Digital Currency (BCDC) team is looking for a engineering manager to manage a team of engineers. You will be building and leading a team of 5 to 7 engineers over the next few quarters, focused on Crypto platform. You will be responsible for delivering projects that will be charting the course for BCDC globally in PayPal. You will be working with Product managers, architects and peers to deliver high value strategic projects at optimal velocity.

We expect the candidate to have strong knowledge in Java and its development tools. Candidate is expected to understand the business needs, convert it to solution design working with architects and delivering the projects end-to-end - including change management, release management and post-production warranty. Candidate is expected to have strong inclination towards operational excellence.

Meet Our Team

Presently, BCDC team is responsible for cryptocurrency BUY/SELL/ HOLD and PYUSD, PayPals own stable coin. BCDC, especially PYUSD is a strategic initiative from PayPal to fundamentally change the rails of payments through Blockchain. BCDC consists of a small team of handful of highly talented engineers trying fundamentally to change the way we pay.

• You will be executing projects that fundamentally change the way we do payment.
• You will be delivering high value projects in the stable coin and crypto-space.
• You will have to deal with high-stake business deadlines with limited resources with clear prioritization.
• You will play a key role in connecting the dots working with architecture, product and blockchain experts.
• You will have to deal with ambiguity and changing priorities by pivoting the team accordingly, given the nature of the blockchain, crypto and stable coin space.
• You might have to work with external partners in the crypto space to give a end-to-end offering to the customers.
• You will be developing re-usable capabilities within crypto platform.

• You have to manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment.
• You have to own the end-to-end delivery of projects without any technical debts.
• You have to nurture and lead a software development team that is part of a larger technology organization spanning different geographic location United States, Tel Aviv, Guatemala and India.
• You have to optimize processes, workflows, and developer experiences making work can be more streamlined and efficient.
• You have to report on status of development, quality, operations and system performance to management.
• You have to recruit, retain and manage highly effective engineering teams, conducting performance reviews and making compensation decisions.
• You have to facilitate and drive key technology decisions with senior technology stakeholders.
• You have to play a key role in the broader architectural and design decision making processes.
• You have to help engineering leadership in quarterly and annual planning.
• You have to work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.
• You have to build a culture of learning and sharing knowledge across teams.

• BE/BTECH/BS/MS in Computer Science or related field with 12+ years of software development
• 2-3+ years of experience in managing and growing engineering teams.
• 10+ Years experience as a strong Individual contributor.
• Experience with application architecture, Java frameworks and ecosystem.
• Knowledge of API management and security
• Knowledge of Data management and security
• Taking accountability and speaking out clearly on expectations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Any exposure in Payments, Cryptocurrency is an advantage
