Job Description

Job-Overview :


The Packaging Manager is responsible for managing and optimizing all packaging operations within the food manufacturing facility. This includes ensuring product quality, compliance with food safety regulations, and the effective use of resources. The role also involves leveraging tools like OEE, 5S, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing principles to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities :

Production Management:

Oversee and coordinate daily packaging operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality food products.

Plan and oversee daily packaging operations to ensure timely and accurate completion.

Monitor the performance of packaging lines and address bottlenecks or inefficiencies.

Monitor and improve packaging line performance using Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) metrics.

Ensure packaging operations comply with food safety standards such as FSSAI, FDA, BRC HALAL and FSSC.

Team Supervision and Development:

Lead, train, and motivate the packaging team to achieve operational excellence.

Foster a culture of 5S to maintain workplace organization and cleanliness.

Conduct regular skill assessments and provide training on best practices and new technologies.

Quality and Food Safety Assurance:

Ensure all packaging meets strict quality parameters, including sealing, labelling, and tamper-proofing.

Collaborate with the quality control team to address packaging defects and implement corrective actions.

Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with HACCP and other food safety standards.

Process Optimization:

Identify inefficiencies in packaging processes and implement Kaizen for continuous improvement.

Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste and optimize resource usage.

Conduct time-motion studies and implement changes to improve productivity.

Technical and Equipment Management:

Oversee the maintenance and calibration of packaging machinery to ensure operational efficiency.

Work with the maintenance team to minimize downtime and address recurring equipment issues.

Implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure equipment reliability.

Resource and Inventory Management:

Manage inventory of packaging materials, ensuring availability without overstocking.

Collaborate with procurement to source cost-effective and sustainable packaging materials.

Monitor and reduce material waste during the packaging process.

Health, Safety, and Compliance:

Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols in the packaging area.

Conduct regular safety drills and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment.

Ensure compliance with industry regulations and certifications.

Collaboration and Reporting:

Coordinate with production, supply chain, and logistics teams to meet production and delivery goals.

Generate and analyze reports on OEE, waste reduction, and process improvements.

Provide insights to senior management on performance trends and improvement opportunities.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Background: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engg, Food Technology, PG in relevant science stream
  • Experience: 9+ years in packaging operations, preferably in the Spice & seasoning manufacturing industry.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Hands-on experience with tools like OEE, 5S, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing.
    • Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, GHK, BRC, FSSC, and other food safety standards.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Technical Knowledge: Expertise in packaging machinery, materials, and technology used in the food industry.

Key Metrics for Success:

  • Improvement in OEE and reduction of downtime.
  • Reduction in packaging defects and material waste.
  • Compliance with food safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Successful implementation of Lean and Kaizen initiatives.
  • Achievement of production and delivery schedules.
