Software Development Manager

Oracles Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) team is building new Infrastructure-as-a-Service technologies that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best-in-class compute, storage, networking, database, security, and an ever-expanding set of foundational cloud-based services.

The Support organization in OCI is building new services to addressing complex, large scale and connected event platforms that manifests as the following services- Oracle Support Center and Oracle Support Digital Assistant. These services are cornerstones of the Customer experiences offered by OCI and offer a wide variety of technical problems to be solved and customer focused innovations to be created.

In the OCI Support Tooling team, we are dedicated to developing a scalable platform to meet the expanding needs of Oracle Cloud. Our goal is to optimize support costs while delivering a top-tier support experience to our customers. We utilize advanced rule-based systems and machine learning-driven alerting, as well as interactive bots to assist with customer issues. The team is focused on enhancing these fundamental capabilities and continually improving the customer experience.

As a Manager of Software Engineers, you will own delivery of the software development for major components of Oracles Cloud Infrastructure.

Responsibilities 

As a Sr Software Development Manager you will be required to fulfill the following job responsibilities:

Lead a team that builds new features, enhancements and bug fixes for the service - obtain results through the people you lead

Influence and review design decisions, project planning, release planning, delivery and operational excellence of all changes going to production environments

Manage costs, optimize resources and lead process improvements - build economically viable, fiscally competitive and streamlined teams to achieve the goals for their team and the organization

Help maintain and improve the build and test systems including systems for performance and scalability testing.

Clearly communicate the business rationale for any change and gain support of employees - align roles, systems and processes with the direction of the change in order to benefit from it

Work with internal and external teams to unblock development and meet committed release dates.

Manage our on-call rotation and help the team to resolve complex distributed network issues through debugging, communication and collaboration with multiple teams across OCI

Help handle escalations and serve as a bridge between the Development and leadership teams

Participate & drive in roadmap planning, talent review and goal setting

Have good hiring skills and build a strong self-managed team

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering or related engineering fields

2+ years of experience in a combination of technical lead and engineering management positions in cloud product development

5+ years of experience with software development

Proficient with object oriented programming (Java/C++)

Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals. Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.

Experience with Agile, JIRA & Confluence and proven experience of managing large projects with multiple downstream dependencies

Experience working with customers for new feature requirements and resolving reported issues

Experience with cloud topologies and technologies

Experience with CICD & Ops

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a fast paced start-up environment

Experience with streaming technologies like Kafka

Experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.

Masters / PhD degree in Computer Science or related engineering fields
