AV Presales Design Engineer

Position Overview:

The AV Presales Design Engineer is responsible for working closely with the sales team to design and propose customized audiovisual (AV) solutions for clients. This role combines technical expertise with strong customer-facing skills to deliver high-quality designs, technical advice, and support during the presales phase. The engineer will be involved in pre-sales consultations, system designs, solution presentations, and proposal development.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Solution Design & Proposal Preparation:
• Work with the sales team and clients to understand requirements and develop tailored AV solutions.
• Design AV systems that meet customer needs, leveraging the latest technologies and best practices.
• Prepare technical proposals, system schematics, and design documents for customers.
• Ensure designs are scalable, cost-effective, and compliant with industry standards.
2. Technical Support & Consultation:
• Provide technical guidance to sales teams during customer meetings, presentations, and site surveys.
• Conduct product demos and presentations to showcase AV solutions and their capabilities.
• Respond to technical queries from clients and internal teams, offering expert advice and troubleshooting.
3. Collaboration & Communication:
• Work closely with sales, engineering, and project management teams to ensure smooth transition of designs into implementation.
• Collaborate with vendors to specify and select appropriate AV equipment.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure the design meets the business and technical requirements.
4. Project Documentation & Reporting:
• Create detailed drawings, technical documents, and project documentation for the AV solutions proposed.
• Assist in developing detailed project scopes and work breakdown structures (WBS) during the presales phase.
• Provide accurate cost estimates, considering all technical and commercial aspects of the design.
5. Training & Development:
• Keep up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and product offerings.
• Continuously improve technical knowledge and maintain certifications where applicable.
• Train sales teams on technical products and new solutions.

Key Requirements:

• Education: Bachelors degree in engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Experience:
• 3+ years of experience in AV design, system integration, or similar roles.
• Proven experience in the AV presales environment, including designing systems and preparing proposals.
• Strong understanding of AV technologies, including video conferencing, sound systems, projection systems, digital signage, and control systems.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficient in AV design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio, Revit, or similar).
• Knowledge of AV control systems (Crestron, Extron, AMX, etc.) and integration with other building technologies.
• Familiarity with industry standards (AVIXA, CEDIA, etc.) and certifications (CTS, CTS-D).
• Strong knowledge of networked AV systems and IT integration.
• Soft Skills:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with clients at all levels.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Good project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), CTS Design (CTS-D), or similar.
• Experience with large-scale AV system designs and deployments in corporate, education, or entertainment sectors.
• Familiarity with programming AV control systems.
