Assistant Manager - Operational Control & Assurance
Core Responsibilities:
- Drive and lead the day-to-day execution of assurance standards, through re-performance and independent reviews (level 1 and Control testing) for your area of responsibility, including the delivery of performance output, and assisting with stakeholder and committee level reporting
- Drive and lead ad-hoc related assurance activities, where requested, through thematic reviews, target testing etc, to ensure adherence to control standards including developing and maintaining assurance plan and schedules.
- Timely identification and clearly communicate emerging risks or business threats that could influence the risk profile of Operations 1LoD
- Develop, agree and track mitigating corrective action plans on emerging Quality Assurance themes with operational stakeholders and functional peers, completing check and challenge activity to ensure relevant considerations have been given to drive action robustness.
- Be seen as a key SME within the business representing area of responsibility in core working and steering groups where applicable
- Own and co-ordination the Ops Control and Assurance reporting, ensuring that the data is accurate, meets the needs of the business and timely. Reporting covering: Operations Committee, Conduct Risk Committee, Ops Risk Committee and the Monthly Assurance dashboards, ensuring that data is accurate, and reports are timely
- Monitor risk indicators and report on risk exposure to management
- Deputise for Line Manager as required
- Establish automation and Process Improvements through deep dives, end to end reviews, risk assessments and control testing
- To ensure participation in Great Place to Worl survey, and team building activities to support the aim to be 'Best Company' and ensure good team morale
- Ensure that you and your team fully understand and comply with the organisation's Risk Management Policies as they relate to your area of responsibility and demonstrate in your day-to-day work that you put customers at the heart of everything you do.
- Ensure that you and your team fully understand and comply with the organisation's Data Governance Policies as they relate to your area of responsibility and demonstrate in your day-to-day work that you treat data as an important corporate asset which must be protected and managed.
- Maintain the company's compliance standards and ensure timely completion of all mandatory on-line training modules and attestations.
- Line manage and coach all direct reports, including all aspects of performance management, development, conduct, sickness management, appraisals, employee administration and recruitment.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Financial Services, with significant exposure to Mortgages / Lending is essential (preferably UK Financial Services)
- Minimum 3 years' experience in Operational Risk / risk control self-assessment management is essential
- Minimum 3 years' experience within in Operational Quality Assurance is essential.
- Minimum 3 years line management experience is essential
- Previous experience of working in a 1st Line Risk & Control model or chief control office is desirable
Knowledge Requirements:
- Advanced and current knowledge of FCA Mortgage Conduct of Business (MCOB) / Banking Conduct of Business (BCOB)
- Advanced and current knowledge of regulated and unregulated mortgage products in a Financial Services market
- Advanced and current knowledge of Quality Assurance and Outcome Testing Management is essential
- Strong and current knowledge of Conduct and Operational Risk and Control Management is essential
- Excellent knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel & Power Point is essential

- Advanced problem solving and analytical skills with proven ability to use data effectively to identify and resolve issues is essential
