Job Description

We are looking for a Creative and Passionate Art & Craft Instructor to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with students of all ages and has a strong passion for the arts, especially in the fields of drawing, painting, sculpture, and other craft-making. The instructor will be responsible for delivering engaging and innovative art and craft lessons that inspire students to explore their creative potential. This position requires not only artistic talent but also the ability to nurture creativity, provide constructive feedback, and create an inclusive, supportive, and dynamic learning environment.

The Art & Craft Instructor will work with a diverse group of students, fostering their artistic growth and helping them develop a deep appreciation for art and craftsmanship. The role will require creating lesson plans, facilitating hands-on projects, and possibly assisting in organizing exhibitions or events. Whether you are teaching in a classroom setting, conducting workshops, or leading community-based projects, your contribution will be vital in promoting the love of art and crafting.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Development & Instruction:

  • Design & Plan Lessons: Develop comprehensive art and craft lesson plans that align with the educational goals of the institution, ensuring they cater to different age groups and skill levels. The curriculum should foster creativity and improve technical skills in various art forms.
  • Teach a Variety of Art Forms: Provide instruction in a wide range of art and craft techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, paper crafts, fabric arts, and mixed media projects.
  • Adapt Teaching Methods: Modify teaching methods based on students' needs, abilities, and interests. Create projects that are engaging, educational, and fun, encouraging students to experiment and express their creativity.
  • Hands-On Learning: Facilitate hands-on craft activities that promote motor skills, creativity, and artistic techniques. Encourage exploration with different materials such as clay, fabric, recycled objects, wood, and more.

2. Student Development & Engagement:

  • Nurture Creative Expression: Encourage students to express their unique artistic vision and help them develop their own style, ensuring that they feel comfortable and supported in the creative process.
  • Provide Constructive Feedback: Offer positive, constructive, and actionable feedback to students to help them improve their techniques and develop their artistic abilities. Evaluate student work regularly and provide guidance for growth.
  • Foster a Supportive Environment: Create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where students feel safe to explore and take risks with their creative work.
  • Encourage Collaboration: Promote collaboration among students by encouraging group projects and peer-to-peer feedback, fostering a sense of community and teamwork in the art and craft classroom.

3. Classroom Management:

  • Manage Student Behavior: Maintain order in the classroom by setting clear expectations for behavior, safety, and respect for materials. Ensure a productive and organized classroom setting where students can focus on their artistic work.
  • Maintain Supplies & Materials: Oversee the organization and use of art and craft materials, ensuring there are adequate supplies available for each class. Maintain an inventory of materials, and order new supplies when needed.
  • Safety Protocols: Ensure students are following safety guidelines, especially when handling tools, paints, or other materials that may require special attention. Teach students safe practices when using materials like scissors, hot glue guns, and other craft tools.

4. Workshops and Exhibitions:

  • Organize Art Exhibitions: Help organize and prepare for art exhibitions, displays, and showcases where students can present their finished works. This could include school-wide events or community-based exhibitions.
  • Host Craft Workshops: Lead art and craft workshops for different age groups, communities, or special interest groups, fostering the development of new skills and creative exploration.
  • Promote Student Work: Actively promote student artwork through exhibitions, competitions, or other opportunities that help them gain exposure and build confidence in their creative abilities.

5. Collaboration & Communication:

  • Engage with Parents/Guardians: Communicate regularly with students' parents or guardians about their progress, upcoming projects, and events. Provide feedback on students’ strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Other Instructors: Work closely with other art and craft teachers, school staff, and external partners to ensure that students receive a well-rounded and comprehensive creative education.
  • Community Outreach: Build partnerships with local community groups, businesses, and organizations to create opportunities for students to showcase their work and engage in collaborative projects.

6. Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Records: Keep detailed records of lesson plans, student attendance, student progress, and materials used. Ensure all paperwork is kept up to date and easily accessible.
  • Plan & Organize Class Schedules: Work with school administration or program leaders to develop and manage class schedules and ensure that classes are well-attended and on track.
  • Evaluate Program Effectiveness: Regularly assess the effectiveness of the art and craft program and suggest improvements to enhance learning outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

1. Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts , Art Education , Crafts , Design , or a related field is preferred. A combination of relevant certifications or vocational training may also be considered.
  • Additional training in teaching, pedagogy, or art therapy may be advantageous.

2. Skills:

  • Artistic Skills: Strong proficiency in a variety of artistic media and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and crafts (e.g., pottery, knitting, etc.).
  • Teaching Abilities: Ability to convey artistic concepts and techniques to students in a clear and engaging way. Experience in classroom management, lesson planning, and creating an interactive learning environment.
  • Creativity & Innovation: Ability to think outside the box and create original, fun, and engaging art and craft projects that captivate students.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide feedback and interact effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience & Empathy: Ability to support students through the creative process, offering encouragement and constructive criticism when needed. Understanding that creativity is a journey and that mistakes are part of learning.
  • Organizational Skills: Effective at managing time, lesson plans, materials, and classroom resources to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

3. Experience:

  • Experience teaching or working with children, youth, or adults in an art or craft-based environment, whether in a school, community center, or workshop setting.
  • Experience in planning and executing exhibitions, displays, or events that showcase students’ work.

4. Personal Qualities:

  • Passionate About Art & Craft: A genuine passion for the arts and a desire to inspire creativity in others.
  • Adaptable: Ability to adapt to different learning styles and age groups, modifying lessons to meet the needs of each student.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with other instructors and staff members to deliver a well-rounded and dynamic arts education experience.
  • Encouraging & Supportive: Ability to foster a positive learning environment where all students feel valued, encouraged, and motivated to create.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of modern art trends, techniques, and digital tools (e.g., digital illustration, graphic design, or multimedia art) may be a plus.
  • Previous experience in organizing art exhibitions or community-based art events.
