System Engineer

Role:

This role maintains tools and services that support the hosting and operations such as repository, configuration management and CI/CD. Were looking for someone who is comfortable with multiple platforms and can design and maintain infrastructure through code.

Experience level:

• An upper-level individual contributor in a systems engineering role.
• BS in CS or related discipline preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a world class Systems Engineering tooling infrastructure. Plan updates, configuration improvements, work with vendors improve and advance the capability of the services. Develop future roadmaps.
• Respond to 3rd Tier operational and security vulnerability issues and incidents as they arise.
• Design, code and execute both internal and stakeholder projects, continuously improving systems and operations ‘ilities’ (i.e. reliability, maintainability, etc).
• Document systems and services, develop runbooks and train others in maintaining and developing systems through code.

Requirements:

• You are an expert in infrastructure provisioning and management.
• You design, implement and maintain highly available and scalable infrastructure using containerization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, (GKE, AWS EKS)
• An expert in one or more of Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Chef, Puppet: these tools should be core to your current workflow.
• Experienced in designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines and maintaining the tooling applications.
• A broad capability in managing and supporting Linux and Windows Operating systems and their infrastructure.
• Experienced in one or more of following computing environments: AWS, GCP, OCI, Azure
• Proficient in general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Python, JavaScript, Ruby, or Go.
• You participate in technical communities such as contributing to Open Source, speaking, blogging or having impact by coordinating groups of technical individuals.

Core Competencies:

• Own the deployment and configuration management pipeline for both public cloud (e.g. AWS, GCP or Azure) and private cloud (VMware)
• Establish trust and strong relationships with senior leaders, application and operation managers, and professional staff across other teams as it pertains to infrastructure needs.
• Experience with and inclination for operating and executing as part of a distributed team using asynchronous workflows and communications
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert on all things infrastructure and automation for the larger organization.
• Create accurate and clear technical documentation; develop support processes and procedures; operational training and support ownership hand-off to peers/organizational units.
• Demonstrable experience designing complex technology stacks.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
• Demonstrate both tactical and strategic technical plan development, project management skills and delegation capabilities.
• Strong team player. Willingness to take responsibility, accountability and ownership.
• Participate in compensated on-call rotation for critical services.
