Job Description:


Main Responsibilities:

As a Staff Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the key responsibility is to provide specialized care for critically ill or premature newborns in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The position demands dedication, skill, and a compassionate approach to care, with a focus on life-saving treatments and parental support.

  1. Neonatal Care: Provide around-the-clock care for newborns in the NICU, ensuring the infants' health and well-being. Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and provide essential nutrients to newborns. Ensure the proper development of infants' lungs and breathing. Perform life-sustaining interventions and techniques such as CPR when necessary.
  2. Parental Support: Offer emotional support to parents, explaining and guiding them on day-to-day NICU operations and home-care procedures for their newborns. Educate parents on proper care after discharge.
  3. Team Collaboration: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with doctors, NICU in-charge, and other healthcare professionals to ensure secure and effective treatment plans. Assist physicians during procedures and treatments. Participate in team conferences and help make team assignments.
  4. NICU Management: Ensure the NICU environment is clean, safe, and well-organized. Maintain and check NICU supplies and equipment, ensuring their functionality and safety. Assist in taking inventory and report discrepancies. Provide a smooth handover of patients and NICU equipment during shift changes. Supervise junior nursing staff and students.
  5. Documentation and Record Keeping: Keep accurate, up-to-date patient records and nurses' notes according to hospital standards. Follow physicians orders and ensure proper documentation of treatments and medications administered. Maintain and update NICU logs as directed by the NICU in-charge.
  6. Emergency and Critical Care: Assist in emergency nursing procedures to manage sudden changes in the patient's condition. Ensure rapid response to critical situations and take appropriate action as per NICU protocols. Participate in CPR, emergency codes, and life-saving activities.
  7. Training and Education: Participate in clinical teaching and in-service education programs. Provide guidance to student nurses and junior staff. Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members.

  • Ensure a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for newborns and their families.
  • Manage medical equipment and supplies responsibly and maintain accurate records.

  • Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork in all NICU activities.
