Position : Ward Clerk
On Yearly Fixed Term Contract.(Hospital Contract) - Renewed every year based on performance.
*Need to work in Shifts - Morning & Afternoon
Roles and Responsibilities
Acts as a Receptionist:
Answer telephone, operate paging system; attend the stations.
Greet persons coming to the nursing station, direct and assist them, take and relay messages, deliver mail etc. to patients, answer inquiries, refer patients visitors to appropriate sources, run errands for unit personnel if necessary, work with messenger service. Remain in the station and direct traffic during an emergency
2. Acts as a Clerk:
a. On line requisition / forms to requisition supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, social services etc.
b. On line requisition of diet (patients / visitors) and cancellation of diet orders to food services department.
c. Prepare requisition (on line / manual) for diagnostic and therapeutic services as ordered; coordinate patient appointments with other divisional services.
d. Coordinate transportation of patients and their records to other departments as required for diagnostic / treatment / consultation.
e. Perform clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer, death. Notify appropriate departments, prepare appropriate charts and forms.
f. Update patient census and condition reports (where applicable). Route patient records as required.
g. Keep stock and equipment inventories.
3.Assists the Doctor and Nurse-in-Charge:
a. Keeps medical records in order with all forms properly identified.
b. Files reports of tests, consultations, procedures, etc.
c. Account for all records and see that only authorized persons have access to the medical records.
4. Other duties that may be assigned from time to time:
a. May assist with personnel schedules and time sheets.
b. May keep records of hours worked, absences, on-call schedules and time, overtime, etc.
c. May maintain records of monetary charges, may write charges for patient services.
d. May maintain a reference library.
e. Any other duties as assigned by the nurse-in-charge for which a clerical person is capable of performing.
5. Keeps the nurse-in-charge informed of situations related to the nursing unit:
6. Maintains a clear, orderly, safe working area; complies with established policies and procedures that relate to safety, environmental and infection control, quality assurance and the nursing service philosophy and goals.
7. Works in a cost effective manner.
8. Cooperates with personnel, visitors and patients to maintain good-employee and public relations.
Desired Candidate Profile
B.Sc with similar previous experience.
