Engineering Manager - Backend

Job Overview:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team of engineers, driving technical initiatives, and overseeing the development of high-quality software and systems. The role requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with the organizations strategic goals. The Engineering Manager will collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure engineering processes are efficient, scalable, and sustainable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership and Development:
  
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
• Provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews, and support professional development through coaching and training.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the engineering team.
• Coordinate with HR to hire, onboard, and retain top engineering talent.
• Project and Technical Leadership:
  
• Oversee and drive the technical direction of engineering projects, ensuring they are aligned with business goals and requirements.
• Ensure that projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget by effectively managing resources and setting clear priorities.
• Break down complex engineering problems and lead the team in designing scalable, maintainable, and efficient solutions.
• Ensure adherence to best practices in software engineering, including coding standards, testing practices, and version control.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and other teams to define product requirements, features, and deliverables.
• Act as a technical advisor to senior management and other stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations to drive strategic decisions.
• Facilitate communication between engineering and other departments to ensure alignment on goals, deadlines, and expectations.
• Process Improvement and Engineering Excellence:
  
• Drive process improvements to enhance engineering efficiency, quality, and collaboration, leveraging agile methodologies and best practices.
• Implement and manage effective software development workflows, including planning, estimation, development, testing, and deployment.
• Promote the use of modern development tools, automation, and CI/CD pipelines to streamline engineering processes.
• Technical Oversight and Quality Assurance:
  
• Ensure the team’s code is of high quality, maintainable, and adheres to security and performance standards.
• Conduct regular code reviews, ensuring that code meets company standards and solving any technical challenges encountered during development.
• Oversee testing strategies, ensuring that automated tests, integration tests, and manual tests are effectively used to guarantee software quality.
• Monitor and address technical debt, making sure that long-term software sustainability is prioritized.
• Reporting and Metrics:
  
• Provide regular updates to senior management on the progress of engineering projects, team performance, and technical challenges.
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and productivity of the engineering team.
• Use data-driven insights to make decisions, resolve issues, and improve team operations.
