Veeva Technical Director

Purpose

The Technical Director is responsible for overseeing the company's technical operations, ensuring alignment between technology strategy and business goals. This role leads technical initiatives, drives innovation, and ensures the efficiency and scalability of software development processes. The Technical Director serves as a key link between technical teams and upper management and driving technical excellence across the organization.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Strategy

• Define and drive the overall project technical strategy, ensuring alignment with the project business objectives and goals.
• Provide technical direction and support to Technical Managers (Tech Leads) and development teams.
• In cooperation with Technical managers and Engineering director establish technical standards and practices, including software architecture, development methodologies, and toolsets.
• Lead technical planning and decision-making for high-impact initiatives, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Work closely with the Engineering Director to set long-term technology goals and roadmaps.
• Participate in review and approval of technical proposals, architectural designs, and complex technical solutions.
• Lead post-mortems and implement lessons learned after major incidents or challenges.

Collaboration

• Coordinate with other project roles (eg. Project directors, Program director) to ensure smooth project execution.
• Act as a technical liaison between technical teams and project leadership.
• Facilitate cross-team technical initiatives, ensuring collaboration and knowledge sharing between different technical teams.
• Lead technical discussions and decisions that impact multiple teams, ensuring consensus and alignment.

Team Development

• Mentor Technical Managers, encouraging their leadership and technical growth.
• Support the professional development of the technical team through coaching, training, and performance feedback.
• Ensure regular performance evaluations for technical staff, with a focus on career progression and skill development.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging teams to adopt new tools, methodologies, and practices.

Business & Process Improvement

• Keep deep knowledge of the projects key business objectives and ensure technical decisions align with these objectives.
• Understand the unique needs and technical challenges of each client or project and ensure solutions meet both technical and business requirements.
• Serve as a technical expert in client discussions, helping to guide technical decisions that support business outcomes.
• Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tooling, and quality standards across the technical organization.
• Encourage teams to experiment with and adopt innovative technologies, frameworks, and practices.
• Implement strategies to optimize resource allocation, development velocity, and operational efficiency.

Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge of web development, HTML, CSS, JavaScript & Typescript
• Experience with front-end frameworks, ideally React and/or Astro
• Some understanding of email development
• Knowledge of Veeva ecosystem: Vault Promomats, Veeva CRM, Salesforce
• Backend development in node.js
• QA processes, mostly manual testing
• Good overview of Jira, automations
