The Student Counselor works closely with students, parents, and school staff to foster a supportive and nurturing school environment.
Job Description • Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to students dealing with academic stress, emotional issues, social challenges, and personal concerns. ● Assess students needs and develop individualized plans to address their specific challenges and goals. • Facilitate group counseling sessions on topics such as peer relationships, stress management, and study skills. • Develop and lead workshops or support groups to address common issues affecting students. • Provide immediate support and intervention for students experiencing crises, such as mental health emergencies or family issues. • Collaborate with other professionals, such as mental health specialists and social workers, to address urgent needs and ensure appropriate care. • Work with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to address students needs and coordinate interventions. • Conduct workshops or informational sessions for parents and staff on topics related to student well-being and development. ● Develop and implement school-wide programs and initiatives focused on mental health, emotional well-being, and academic success. ● Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, interventions, and student progress. • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in counseling, mental health, and education. • Adhere to ethical guidelines and legal requirements related to student confidentiality and privacy.
Qualifications: • Education: Bacherlors/Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Licensure or certification as a professional counselor or therapist is preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in counseling in a school or educational setting is preferred.
