Role & responsibilities

• Responsible for the safe, comfortable and comprehensive nursing care for all patients under her/his care.
• Orient new Patient to the unit
• Responsible to perform all procedures as per hospital policies and protocols.
• Provide a safe and clean environment for the patients.
• Demonstrate skill in patient assessment, capturing and carrying out doctors orders, documentation, & equipment handling.
• Follow infection control policies and biomedical waste management guidelines.
• To be well groomed, punctual & adhere to company policies and practices.
• Coordinate patient care with various health care team members
• Carryout doctors orders and instructions promptly and intelligently.
• Before administering medication to patients make sure to take the proper precautions that each medication requires in order to avoid reactions and complications for e.g. Check blood sugar before administering Insulin and keep food ready. Check B/P before administering Anti-hypertensive medication,
• Make double checks before administering Narcotic drugs, High alert medication and blood transfusions. Make sure a second nurse is present while preparing and administering them.
• Observe changes in patient’s condition take necessary action, report and record.
• Responsible to impart special care and precautions to vulnerable patients.
• Impart health education to the patients as per their diagnosis and requirement.
• Take equipment and drug inventory on daily basis and maintain records accordingly.
• Maintain good interpersonal relationship with nurse administrators, senior staff, juniors and students.
• Attend In-service education programmes in order to update knowledge and keep abreast of changes and trends in health and nursing care.
• Must be well versed with computers and the HIS
• Participates in conferences with team leader and makes up team assignments.
• Performs patient care within the principles of Nursing, reporting pertinent observations or complaints to the team leader and/or Head Nurse.
• Collaborate and co-ordinate care with other health professionals to ensure a quality service
• Communicate effectively, positively and courteously with patients and the health care team
• Maintain emergency room care standards
• Display strong decision-making skills in emergency scenarios.
• Triage incoming patients based on level of injury or illness
• Demonstrate accurate assessment skills, appropriate to the age of the patient, based on scientific facts and principles.
• Perform and document ongoing assessments including observation, physical examination, laboratory/test results, and patient response to procedural intervention.
• Implement, review and revise plan of care according to change in patient’s status.
• Prioritize nursing interventions commensurate with patient’s needs.
• Coordinate and document appropriate discharge planning and referrals to ensure continuity of care after discharge.
• Resolve problems and conflicts effectively using organizational structures and processes
• Undertake a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment of patients using suitable assessment tools underpinned by evidenced based knowledge
• Take appropriate nursing actions in emergency situations and other situations that compromise patient safety
• Receive and dispatch of sick patient at the ER gate.
• Assist the doctor in assessment of the patient
• Co-ordinate with ER registration in case admission is required.
• Accompany the patient to radiology/ ward/ ICU/ any other area in the hospital as required.
• Responsible for the replenishment of the drugs & consumables used.
• Death information has to be passed to the MS/NS/MRD.
• In case of medico legal death, the body and certificate has to be handed over only to the investigating police officer.
• Maintain necessary registers and log book.
• Check the necessary drugs & equipment in the ambulance
• Prepare the medical record of the patient and sending them to the medical records department.
• Apart from the above duties and responsibilities carry out any other duties assigned to her by the Nurse In-charge & Nursing Supervisor
