Role & responsibilities
Financial Statement Preparation:
Preparing accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with accounting standards specific to the healthcare industry.
Accounting and Bookkeeping: Maintaining accurate records of financial transactions, including revenue, expenses, assets, and liabilities. This involves recording journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring the integrity of financial data.
Financial Analysis: Analyzing financial data and performance metrics to provide insights into the financial health of the healthcare organization. CAs may perform ratio analysis, trend analysis, and variance analysis to identify areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
Internal Controls and Audit: Establishing and monitoring internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations. CAs may conduct internal audits to assess the effectiveness of controls and recommend improvements.
Cost Accounting: Tracking and analyzing costs associated with healthcare services, such as direct patient care, medical supplies, and overhead expenses. Use cost accounting techniques to determine the profitability of specific services or departments within the healthcare organization.
Financial Planning and Budgeting: Assisting in the development of financial plans and budgets. Help set financial targets, allocate resources effectively, and monitor budgetary performance throughout the fiscal year.
Compliance and Regulatory Reporting: Ensuring compliance with healthcare-specific regulations, such as those related to billing, insurance reimbursement, and government programs (e.g., Medicare or Medicaid). Prepare regulatory reports and assist with external audits or reviews.
Financial Systems and Technology: Utilizing accounting software and technology solutions to streamline financial processes, improve data accuracy, and enhance financial reporting capabilities.
