Key skills for the job
Budgeting and Rolling Forecasts
Understanding all the details of our current cashflow - you will need to become familiar with Xero.com which is the accounting software we use
Creating financial models that take into account several variables - using Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel with data visualisations in PowerBI; and/or identifying free or affordable dedicated financial forecasting software that can be used
Preparing our monthly Management Accounts and presenting these to the management team so that we understand where we are over budget and under budget
Making monthly recommendations on whether we need to adjust our growth targets (e.g. sales, revenue) and/or expenditure
On a monthly basis deciding the amount of cash we need to hold in reserve and making recommendations as to where we can make savings; taking into account that we need to make quarterly and monthly tax payments. (We will advise you on the tax requirements. We are not expecting you to be a specialist in UK tax but we do expect you to be able to understand the two types of tax we need to pay once we explain those to you and you should be willing to do your own learning so that you understand the payments we need to make)
Streamlining our Financial Processes
Setting up a SaaS user licence billing system for Makerble - either by identifying a free or affordable third party billing tool we can use (e.g. Maxio) or working with our developers to build a custom billing module within Makerble so that our customers can pay for user licences using a payment card from within our platform
Setting up integrations between Jira (our project management system), our accounting system and your newly devised Makerble billing system so that we can bill clients for bespoke customisation work that we do
Incorporating the way we bill for Onboarding within our new billing system so that we no longer need to use spreadsheets to keep track of (A) the time we spend on each stage of onboarding and (B) the amount we need to bill our clients for Onboarding.
Managing and analysing the data within our online payment tools; Wise, Stripe, GoCardless and PayPal
Identifying other opportunities to streamline our financial processes
Data Unification, Analysis and Visualisation
Combining customer data from different sources so that we can see a clear financial and non-financial picture of our customers. Specifically this includes combining data from HubSpot CRM, Xero, Makerble, Jira Service Desk and several Spreadsheets
Creating dashboards in PowerBI that visualise customer data as well as financial data
Enabling other team members to analyse the data you have prepared, by creating easy-to-use filters within the PowerBI dashboards and preparing guidance documentation and videos
Conducting data analysis of our financial data and customer data in order to spot trends and insights
Setting up and managing SaaS analytics software packages like ProfitWell.com
Identifying other opportunities to improve the way we unify, analyse and visualise our data
Other financial tasks that support the growth of a startup
Taking on other projects that might be strongly or loosely related to finance, for example, setting our pricing strategy for different markets or preparing financial models for investors
Reconciliation of transactions within Xero.com, our accounting platform
Setting up automations and integrations for financial processes where appropriate, e.g. for payroll
Identifying industry benchmarks to compare Makerble \u2019s performance against
