Staff Nurse

A staff nurse's job description includes providing nursing care to patients, and may also include:

• Patient care: Providing general care, including bathing, feeding, and making beds
• Technical care: Administering medications, injections, and other treatments, and preparing for and assisting with procedures
• Monitoring: Observing and recording vital signs, and monitoring for signs of deterioration
• Communication: Providing emotional support to patients and their families, and advising them on health
• Collaboration: Working with other professionals, such as doctors, social workers, and therapists
• Supervision: Supervising new staff nurses and nursing students
• Documentation: Writing records and reporting near-misses and errors
• Infection control: Monitoring compliance with infection control practices
• Patient admission and discharge: Assisting with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients
• Health education: Implementing individualized health education plans

Staff nurses may also be responsible for maintaining the health and comfort of the patient environment, and ensuring the safe custody of ward supplies. Some requirements for a staff nurse include:

• Post-qualification nursing experience
