Microsoft Power BI Senior Business Intelligence Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Microsoft Power BI Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to join our growing Data & Analytics team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in developing and optimizing BI solutions using Microsoft Power BI, strong data modeling skills, and a solid understanding of modern data warehousing practices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable, high-quality data-driven solutions that inform strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Develop BI Solutions:
• Architect, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models that provide actionable insights.
• Implement best practices for data visualization, DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), and Power Query (M) language to ensure high performance and scalability.
2. Data Modeling & Integration:
• Collaborate with data engineers to build robust data pipelines and ETL processes that feed into Power BI datasets.
• Establish and maintain efficient data models, schemas, and relationships to optimize query performance.
3. Performance Optimization:
• Conduct regular performance tuning of Power BI datasets, dashboards, and reports.
• Monitor and troubleshoot issues related to data accuracy, performance bottlenecks, and user experience.
4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
• Work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and leadership to gather requirements, provide status updates, and deliver insights.
• Communicate complex data topics and BI strategies effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
5. Governance & Security:
• Ensure adherence to data governance policies, compliance requirements, and security best practices.
• Implement row-level security (RLS) and other Power BI security measures to safeguard sensitive data.

1. Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
• Stay updated on emerging BI trends and Power BI enhancements to drive innovative solutions.
• Evaluate existing solutions, identify areas for improvement, and implement new approaches that enhance data accessibility and analytics capabilities.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field; Masters degree is a plus.

• Experience:
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in Business Intelligence, data analytics, or related fields.
• Proven track record of designing and deploying end-to-end BI solutions using Microsoft Power BI.
• Strong background in SQL and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Azure SQL Database).

• Technical Skills:
• Deep knowledge of Power BI (datasets, reports, dashboards, Power Query, DAX).
• Experience with data modeling techniques (star/snowflake schemas), ETL/ELT processes, and modern data warehousing.
• Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory) is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with other Microsoft data tools such as SSAS (Tabular), SSIS, and SSRS.
• Background in Python, R, or other programming languages for advanced analytics or data manipulation.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and working in a sprint-based development environment.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control for BI solutions.
