Diagnosis and assessment: A psychiatrist must be able to diagnose and assess mental health disorders by evaluating patients’ symptoms, medical history, and other factors that may be contributing to their mental illness.



Treatment planning: After diagnosis, a psychiatrist must develop a personalized treatment plan for the patient.

This may include prescribing medication, therapy, and other interventions.



Medication management: Psychiatrists are licensed to prescribe medication for mental health disorders.

They must monitor the patient’s response to medication and adjust dosages as needed.
