1. Nutritional Assessment:
Conducting thorough assessments of patients' nutritional status, including evaluating dietary intake, medical history and conducting physical examinations.
2. Developing Nutrition Plans:
Creating individualized nutrition care plans based on patients' needs, medical conditions and dietary requirements. This may involve collaborating with physicians, dietitians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
3. Monitoring and Evaluation:
Regularly monitoring patients' progress on nutrition plans and making adjustments as needed. Evaluating the effectiveness of interventions and modifying plans accordingly.
4. Education and Counseling:
Providing nutrition education and counseling to patients and their families regarding dietary requirements, meal planning and lifestyle modifications. This may involve explaining medical nutrition therapy and helping patients underst and the importance of proper nutrition in managing their health conditions.
5. Supervision and Training:
Supervising and providing guidance to dietitians, nutritionists and other healthcare staff involved in delivering nutrition care. Conducting training sessions to ensure staff competency in nutrition assessment and intervention techniques.
6. Quality Improvement:
Participating in quality improvement initiatives related to nutrition services within the hospital. This may include developing and implementing protocols, conducting audits and analyzing data to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
7. Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Collaborating with other members of the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses and therapists, to coordinate patient care and address interdisciplinary concerns related to nutrition.
8. Research and Evidence-Based Practice:
Staying up-to-date with the latest research and evidence-based practices in clinical nutrition. Applying this knowledge to inform decision-making and improve patient care practices within the hospital setting.
9. Administrative Tasks:
Performing administrative duties such as maintaining patient records, documenting interventions and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies related to nutrition services.
10. Community Outreach:
Engaging in community outreach activities to promote nutrition education and raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating habits and disease prevention. Role & responsibilities
