Polymer Engineer

Role & responsibilities

1. Instrumentation Operation and Maintenance:

• Operate, calibrate, and maintain advanced analytical instruments such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, GPC, NMR, GC-MS, and rheometers.
• Ensure instruments are in optimal working condition by performing regular maintenance and troubleshooting as required.
• Maintain documentation for equipment usage, calibration records, and maintenance logs.

2. Polymer Analysis and Characterization:

• Conduct polymer identification and characterization using spectroscopic, chromatographic, and thermal techniques.
• Analyze and interpret data to determine polymer properties, composition, and behavior under various conditions.
• Develop and optimize testing methods to improve accuracy and efficiency.

3. Method Development and Validation:

• Create new analytical methods for polymer analysis based on project requirements.
• Validate methods to ensure reproducibility and compliance with industry standards.

4. Data Interpretation and Reporting:

• Interpret analytical data and prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate analytical findings into actionable insights.

5. Quality Assurance and Compliance:

• Ensure all testing and analyses comply with industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO) and regulatory requirements.
• Support audits and inspections by providing technical expertise and documentation.

6. Training and Development:

• Train and mentor team members in the operation and application of analytical instruments.
• Stay updated on advancements in polymer analysis technologies and recommend improvements.

Qualifications:

Education: Masters degree in chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science, or a related field. Knowledge of sustainable polymers and biodegradable materials is an advantage.

Experience: 5+ years of experience in polymer characterization and analytical instrumentation. Hands-on experience with a wide range of analytical techniques for polymers. Preferred Experience in a laboratory setting within the polymer, plastics, or chemical industry.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting instruments such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, GPC, NMR, GC-MS, and rheometers. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Soft Skills Excellent communication skills to present findings to technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
