Leather Technician

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Source and evaluate suppliers for leather materials, ensuring quality and reliability.
• Resolve any material incidence issues promptly and efficiently to minimize production disruptions.
• Collaborate with design and production teams to develop new leather products and improve existing ones.
• Oversee leather development processes, including testing, prototyping, and finalization.
• Monitor and ensure adherence to established procedures and standards throughout the production process.
• Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to leather production.
• Maintain awareness of corporate social responsibility (CSR) standards and implement practices to uphold them.
• In-depth knowledge of leather types, finishes, and their application in footwear production.
• Proficiency in quality control methods, including testing for tensile strength, colorfastness, and durability.
• Conduct comprehensive quality checks at each stage of shoe production, from leather preparation through final assembly, to ensure consistency in color, texture, and durability.
• Strong understanding of the shoe manufacturing process and leather requirements for footwear.
• Experience working with industry standards and environmental regulations for leather production.
• Communicate regularly with suppliers to ensure the quality of leather meets company and industry standards.
• Work with teams to meet specific leather requirements for different shoe models and styles.
• Identify and address production issues related to leather, such as cracking, uneven dyeing, or weakening of material, minimizing wastage and rework.
• Implement corrective measures in the event of leather defects or quality issues and ensure that non-conforming materials are isolated and addressed immediately.

Preferred candidate profile

• Bachelor's degree in Leather Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Leather Technician or similar role in the footwear industry
• In-depth knowledge of leather production processes and materials.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Familiarity with CSR principles and their application in the leather industry.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
