Head of MarketPlace
About the Role:
- Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Marketplace to lead and scale their online marketplace presence, primarily focusing on Amazon and Flipkart.
- This critical leadership role will own the strategy, execution, and P&L for their marketplace channels, driving significant sales growth while ensuring a best-in-class customer experience.
- The ideal candidate will be a data-driven leader with a deep understanding of the Indian e-commerce landscape and a proven track record of success in marketplace management.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive Sales Growth & Profitability:
- Develop and execute comprehensive strategies to maximize sales and profitability across online marketplaces, with a primary focus on Amazon and Flipkart.
- Own the P&L for these channels, consistently achieving and exceeding sales targets.
- Analyze daily sales performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement data-driven actions to drive continuous growth.
- Provide regular sales reports and insights to senior management.
Strategic Channel Management:
- Develop and implement joint business plans with Amazon, Flipkart, and other relevant marketplaces, optimizing product assortment, pricing, and promotions.
- Collaborate effectively with internal category managers and external account managers to ensure seamless execution.
Negotiation & Relationship Management:
- Negotiate favorable terms of trade with e-commerce partners, building and maintaining strong relationships at all levels, from front-end operations and product assortment to supply chain, distribution, CRM, and brand marketing.
- Foster collaborative partnerships to enhance digital presence and product performance.
Assortment Optimization & New Product Launches:
- Analyze market trends and customer demand to optimize product assortment on each marketplace.
- Streamline the process for listing new products and ensuring timely and effective launches.
Promotions & Advertising:
- Develop and execute a strategic promotional calendar, leveraging key business drivers for each marketplace.
- Oversee and optimize Amazon Advertising (Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display) and other relevant marketing services to maximize ROI.
Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels across marketplaces, proactively addressing out-of-stock situations and minimizing lost sales.
- Implement efficient inventory management practices to ensure product availability and optimize working capital.
SEO & Content Optimization:
- Ensure all product listings are optimized for search visibility, leveraging relevant keywords and compelling copy.
- Collaborate with the marketing team on broader SEO initiatives, including keyword research, site audits, and link building.
Customer Experience:
- Champion a customer-centric approach, ensuring a seamless and positive customer experience across all marketplace touchpoints.
- Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements to enhance customer satisfaction.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Build and mentor a high-performing marketplace team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in e-commerce, with a significant focus on Amazon and Flipkart. Demonstrated success in managing and scaling marketplace operations.
- Deep understanding of the Indian e-commerce market, including marketplace dynamics, competitive landscape, and customer behavior.
- Proven track record of driving sales growth and profitability on online marketplaces.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant e-commerce tools and platforms.
- Experience with Amazon Advertising and other digital marketing channels.
- Prior experience as a Category Manager with an online retailer or as a Key Account Manager for the e-commerce channel with a leading brand is a strong plus.
- Experience leading and developing a team.
