About the role

The role involves providing strategic advice on indirect tax issues, managing tax-related litigation, and representing the company before authorities. It includes digitizing tax matters, handling legal documentation, advising on corporate and employment laws, and ensuring compliance. The position also coordinates with external counsel for dispute resolution and manages associated costs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing strategic advice to stakeholders on indirect tax issues including operational and audit issues
• Taxation notice and litigation management of notices and proceedings filed by or against the company including legacy tax litigations
• Appearance before tax authorities
• Digitization of indirect taxation related matters
• Handling of legal matters including drafting and vetting legal notice, replies, power of attorneys and affidavits.
• Drafting and negotiating legal documentation for commercial transactions with third parties including customers, manufacturers, contractors, vendors and distributors
• Providing strategic advise to stakeholders on legal and regulatory matters including corporate and commercial laws, labour and employment etc.
• Protecting Company's reputation and business interests whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
• Coordinating with outside counsel for representations before courts, governmental agencies and other authorities and implementing dispute resolution strategies, tracking and managing outside counsel costs

Who are we looking for?

Education:

• Graduate /Post Graduate in Law

Experience:

• 7 to 12 years of experience at a law firm / in-house legal team / tax consultancy firm

Skills:

The candidate should have:

• Knowledge of indirect taxation laws including legacy laws, commercial and civil laws
• Good analytical and drafting skills, commercial acumen
• Good communication skills as this position requires interaction with internal stakeholders at various levels and external stakeholders (including customers, government offices, lawyers and industry bodies and associations)
• Strong desire to learn and time sensitivity
• Chemical or Manufacturing industry experience preferably
• Ability to simultaneously handle multiple complex legal issues
