Job Description

Designs, develops, installs, configures, and maintains enterprise mainframe operating and infrastructure systems (e.g. IBM z Hardware upgrades and patches, storage, Hitachi storage upgrades, and patches, Brocade upgrades, and patches) Coordinates logistics and installation to ensure reliability in accordance with user needs and technical specifications while meeting both availability and performance service level agreements. Recognizes and troubleshoots problems with hardware and connectivity to zOS and zVM operating systems. Establishes and documents standards and procedures (including disaster recovery procedures) for management review. Communicates with and provides reporting and technical support to system users and clients.

Essential duties:

Provide On-call support and weekend maintenance window support within the rotation schedule.
Carry out IBM z mainframe CEC upgrades and downgrades by use of the HMC.
Perform post zOS IPL validations to confirm configurations are properly set prior to production use.
Perform IBM z CEC Power-on-Reset on test, production, and Disaster Recovery CECs.
Customize image profiles.
Utilize HCD to create IODF files containing zOS configurations for the CECs (DASD Device types, VTS Device types, CTCs, and other required types for function zOS systems)
Use zOS commands to display and manage device address and channel paths on the live system.
Understand the overall topology of hardware environment supported (consoles, CECs, DASD, VTS, FICON Directors, and Replication Gear)
Understand the overview of types of features supported and utilized by the mainframe CECs.
Understand the overall topology of the operating systems supported (Parallel Sysplex, zOS, and zVM)
Understand the overview of the types of Physical connectivity utilized in the mainframe environment to make Parallel Sysplex, I/O operations, and replication fully functional.
Coordinate and schedule logistics for vendor repair and maintenance of the mainframe equipment.
Coordinate and schedule the logistics for firmware updates of all the mainframe equipment.
