A physical education (PE) teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging physical activity programs to students, teaching various sports skills, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, assessing student progress, and ensuring their safety during physical activities, all while fostering teamwork and a positive attitude towards exercise; essentially aiming to educate students on the importance of physical fitness through practical lessons and activities. 

Key responsibilities of a physical education teacher:

• Lesson planning and delivery:
• Develop comprehensive PE lesson plans that incorporate a variety of activities, including cardiovascular exercise, strength training, flexibility exercises, and sports skills, tailored to different age groups and abilities. 
• Sports instruction:
• Teach students the fundamentals of various sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball, swimming, etc., including proper techniques and game strategies. 
• Fitness assessment:
• Evaluate students' physical abilities and fitness levels through tests like running speed, agility drills, and flexibility assessments to track progress and identify areas for improvement. 
• Safety supervision:
• Actively monitor students during physical activities to prevent injuries, enforce safety rules, and provide immediate assistance when needed. 
• Adapting to needs:
• Modify activities to accommodate students with disabilities or special needs, ensuring everyone can participate effectively. 
• Promoting healthy lifestyle:
• Educate students about the benefits of regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle. 
• Teamwork and cooperation:
• Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive social interactions through group activities and games. 
• Collaboration with other staff:
• Work with other teachers to integrate physical activity into the overall curriculum and address student health concerns. 
• Organizing events:
• Plan and oversee school-wide physical activity events, competitions, and intramural sports leagues 
• Maintaining records:
• Keep accurate records of student attendance, participation, performance, and progress in physical education classes. 

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Education (or equivalent)
• Certification in CPR and First Aid
• Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and exercise science
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage students of diverse abilities
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs
