Job Description

Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS) | - FARE Labs Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS)
Job Description
Qualification : Ph.D./ M. Tech/ M. Sc./ B.Tech./ B. Sc. Description
Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) is a sophisticated analytical technique used to detect trace elements and isotopes in various samples. It employs an inductively coupled plasma to ionize the sample, which is then introduced into a mass spectrometer. This combination allows for the rapid and sensitive measurement of metals and non-metals at extremely low concentrations, often in the parts-per-trillion range. ICP-MS is widely used in environmental monitoring, pharmaceuticals, and food safety for its ability to analyze complex matrices and provide accurate results. Its speed and precision make it an essential tool in modern analytical laboratories.
FARE Labs provides advanced training on inductively coupled plasma coupled mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) on various sample matrices. ICP-MS combines inductively coupled plasma (ICP) with a mass spectrometer, creating a powerful analytical tool. This technique provides laboratories with rapid analysis and exceptionally low detection limits for trace metal determinations.
Objectives
1. Provide a comprehensive understanding of ICP-MS principles using national/ international standard methods.
2. Equip participants with practical skills for operating ICP-MS systems.
3. Familiarize attendees with data analysis and interpretation techniques.
What is to learn 1. Introduction to ICP-MS
  • Overview of mass spectrometry and its applications.
  • Principles of inductively coupled plasma and ionization.
  • Key components of an ICP-MS system (plasma torch, ion optics, mass analyzer, detector).
  • Instrumentation and Setup.
2. Detailed discussion of ICP-MS components
  • Types of mass analyzers: quadrupole, time-of-flight (TOF).
  • Sample introduction systems: nebulizers and spray chambers.
  • Understanding sensitivity, resolution, and dynamic range.
  • 3. Selecting appropriate analytical methods for different applications
    • Calibration techniques: standard addition, internal standards.
    • Optimizing parameters: plasma conditions, gas flows, and ion lens settings.
    • Applications of ICP-MS.
    • Environmental analysis: heavy metals in water, soil and food samples.
    • Pharmaceutical applications: trace analysis in drug formulations.
    • Food safety: detecting contaminants and additives.
    1. Hands-On Training
    • Instrument setup and calibration for sample analysis.
    • Preparation and analysis of more than 500 samples for various matrices.
    • Running ICP-MS methods: step-by-step guidance.
    • Data Analysis and Interpretation.
    • Understanding mass spectra and interpreting results.
    • Quantification methods and the creation of calibration curves.
    • Software tools for data processing and reporting.
    • Troubleshooting Common Issues.
    2. Identifying and resolving common problems
  • Sensitivity loss, contamination.
  • Strategies for maintaining instrument performance.
  • Preventive maintenance tips.
    1. Adherence to Safety Protocols : Strictly follow all laboratory safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of all participants.
    2. Active Participation: Engage actively in all training sessions, discussions, and practical exercises. Complete all assigned tasks and projects on time.
    3. Respect for Equipment and Facilities: Handle all laboratory equipment and materials with care. Report any damages or malfunctions to the instructor immediately.
    4. Collaboration and Teamwork: Work collaboratively with fellow participants, sharing knowledge and supporting each other s learning.
    5. Integrity and Accuracy: Maintain a high standard of integrity in all testing procedures and documentation. Ensure that all results are accurate and reliable.
Requirements - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
    1. Commitment to the Program: Participants must demonstrate a commitment to the training program by attending all scheduled sessions, completing all assignments, and actively participating in practical exercises. A signed commitment agreement may be required before the start of the program.
    2. Health and Safety Compliance: Participants must comply with health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to all safety protocols. A medical clearance or proof of immunizations may be required for certain training programs.
