Role Profile

Role title Regional Transport Manager Corporate DivisionLogisticsBusiness DivisionDSCBusiness UnitDSC India Overall Role PurposeTo implement the domestic transportation strategy in the given geographical area in India in line with DSC’s wider strategy. Support the development of new business opportunities and to ensure that DSC transport networks are capable of growing in scale and complexity to meet our customer’s requirements. Enable commercial arrangements with subcontractors allowing DSC to meet its profit aspirations for the transport networks. Ensuring DSC complies with legal requirements for its Domestic Transport operations. To meet KPIs on cost, profit and service quality.

To manage operations at a transport branch comprising of CFS, Clearing, and forwarding, container trucking, yard management and customer co-ordination. Reports toHead of Transport OperationBand Date approved28th October 2015

  • Manage the operations at all sites through site managers / transport teams.

  • To arrange EXIM movements & controlled EXIM contractors & CHA dealing for C & F.
  • Provide senior account management leadership as required for major Domestic Transport service customers
  • Working with Business Development to support the achievement of grow East strategy

Process

  • Ensure operating teams meet our contractual commitments for service, cost and reporting.
  • Review P&L for transport operations and work on achieving targets.
  • Periodically, KPI reporting across transport operations in the region.
  • Effective sub-contractor management programme to ensure contracts are in place with carriers, SLA’s have been agreed & that SOP’s are clearly understood & appropriate trainings to each sub-contractor is imparted.
  • Ensure Quarterly Business Reviews with key suppliers using a scorecard to provide feedback and track progress are undertaken.
  • Provide industry knowledge management to ensure continued legal compliance
  • Maintain links with the industry and appraise potential acquisition targets


People - Management

  • Oversees the overall people processes to ensure compliance with Human Resources policies
  • Estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work to subordinates
  • Ensure that all posts are filled with high quality personnel, and in conjunction with HR that appropriate training, development and reward mechanisms are in place to attract, retain and motivate employees to achieve required performance levels.
  • Co-decides with HR Department in the recruitment and selection processes of open positions with in the region.
  • Develops performance targets and goals and evaluates it against those targets and goals for his team.
  • Provides management leadership and motivation to all staff within the areas of responsibility
  • Identifies training and development needs and areas and gives managerial support in training and development programs for subordinate managers
  • Promotes career development
  • Ensures the promotion of discipline among employees in areas of responsibility
  • Manages underperformance of subordinates.

  • Minimum 10 – 15 years experience in logistics management
