Sr. XMPP Messaging Platform Engineer

We are seeking an experienced XMPP Messaging Platform Engineer to join our team and lead the deployment and localization of lightweight, open-source messaging solutions in challenging environments. This role involves porting, testing, and enhancing messaging platforms and their associated applications while ensuring seamless integration with existing systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in XMPP-based platforms, localization, and usability analysis, along with a passion for contributing to open-source projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Platform Deployment: Deploy and integrate XMPP platforms (e.g., Prosody, Snikket) on custom hardware.

Localization: Localize apps (iOS, Android, and web) for target languages and regions.

UI/UX Improvements: Analyze usability, recommend enhancements, and implement approved changes.

Feature Development: Ensure compatibility of messaging and videoconferencing features.

Authentication Systems: Design and integrate centralized or decentralized authentication solutions.

Optimization: Optimize platforms for low-bandwidth, high-latency environments.

Open-Source Contributions: Collaborate with the community to improve platform functionality.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in deploying, customizing, and maintaining XMPP-based messaging platforms (e.g., Prosody, Snikket, Jitsi).
• Proficiency in localizing software applications for different languages and cultures.
• Strong knowledge of authentication protocols and back-end systems (e.g., Keycloak, local databases).
• Experience with UI/UX analysis and implementing user-friendly interfaces.
• Familiarity with Android and iOS application development.
• Hands-on experience in working with open-source projects and contributing back to the community.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to optimize systems for constrained environments.

Preferred Skills:

• Understanding of videoconferencing technologies and their integration with XMPP platforms.
• Experience in building solutions for low-resource environments, including satellite-based communication systems.
• Knowledge of selective forwarding and SIP integration for videoconferencing platforms.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with diverse teams.
