Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Structural & Vibration Analysis : Conduct structural and vibration analysis using ANSYS Workbench (Discovery, SpaceClaim), FESafe, and basic knowledge of CREO.
  • Numerical Computations : Perform numerical computations via third-party and in-house tools to determine the structural performance of components and systems.
  • Problem Investigation : Investigate product and system problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate actions, own problem resolution, and document results with guidance from more experienced team members.
  • Process Improvement : Focus on the execution and improvement of established processes documented in detailed local and global work instructions (EPs) required in Engineering Standard Work (ESW) and/or Design Validation Plans (DVP&R).
  • Input and Collaboration : Obtain input from Design, Thermal Sciences, Materials, and Product Validation teams. Deliver computer models and results for key structural performance parameters to Design and Product Validation.
  • Design Decisions : Use formal training and tool-specific training (ANSYS, FE-Safe, GT, AVL) to make design decisions based on numerical predictions of structural performance.
  • Independent Execution : Provide independent execution of established work processes and systems while developing technology or product knowledge. Engage with the improvement of systems and processes.
  • Team Contribution : Contribute effectively toward team goals, exhibit influence within a workgroup, and continue to develop proficiency in critical competency areas.
Experience:
  • Experience Level : Minimum 2 years of experience. Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area.
  • Technical Skills : Preferred candidates would also have experience using MS Office tools, Matlab, Python, APDL-ANSYS, FORTRAN or C programming, Windows/Linux operating systems, and desktop/remote high-performance computing hardware systems.
Competencies:
  • Dynamics and Vibration : Determine motion of components and systems via numerical modeling and/or physical measurements. Evaluate rigid and flexible body motion, natural frequencies, mode shapes, displacements, velocities, accelerations, friction, and wear to influence design decisions.
  • Fatigue and Durability : Determine the life of components and systems via numerical modeling and/or physical measurements. Evaluate component temperatures, natural frequencies, mode shapes, displacements, strains/stresses, wear, and fatigue life to influence design decisions.
  • Statistical Methods : Analyze technical data using descriptive statistics, probability distributions, graphical analysis, and statistical inference. Model relationships between response and independent variables to make data-based decisions.
  • Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis : Impact product design decisions through computational tools and methods that predict the capability of a products function relative to its system, sub-system, and/or component level requirements.
  • Product Problem Solving : Solve product problems using a process that protects the customer. Determine the assignable cause, implement robust, data-based solutions, and identify systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.
  • Systems Modeling and Simulation : Identify representation of a system or system element using suitable analytical tools and techniques to derive knowledge about the real system. Define the strategy for modeling, simulation, and analysis of a system or system element.
  • Collaboration : Build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
  • Effective Communication : Develop and deliver multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Decision Quality : Make good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward.
  • Results-Driven : Consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances.
  • Self-Development : Actively seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels.
  • Valuing Differences : Recognize the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.
  • Systems Thinking : Define the system of interest by drawing boundaries, identifying its context within its environment, its interfaces, and its lifecycle. Analyze linkages and interactions between elements to understand the system, predict its behavior, and devise modifications to produce desired effects.
  • Technical Documentation : Document information based on knowledge gained as part of technical function activities. Communicate to stakeholders to enable improved technical productivity and effective knowledge transfer.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
  • Education : College, university, or equivalent Bachelors degree in Engineering or an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Post-Graduate Degree : A Masters degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
  • Licensing : This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
