Extreme Network Engineer

• Primarily working with Extreme Network Switching, Routing and Wireless; and Juniper to a lesser degree
• Provide Tier 3 level technical support and troubleshooting for Extreme network infrastructure in a Managed Service Provider environment.
• Act as the highest escalation point for complex network issues, working closely with Tier 3 engineers and other cross-functional teams to resolve critical incidents
• Conduct in-depth root cause analysis of network problems, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques
• Collaborate with network architects, project managers, and other stakeholders to design and implement solutions that meet client requirements and industry best practices
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles
• Assist in the evaluation and deployment of new Extreme network technologies, ensuring seamless integration into the MSP environment
• Continuously monitor network performance, proactively identifying potential issues and implementing necessary optimizations and enhancements
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering their professional development
• Stay up-to-date with the latest Extreme network technologies, industry trends, and best practices

Additional Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs On-call rotation with team members

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in supporting Extreme network infrastructure, preferably within a Managed Service Provider environment
• Expert-level knowledge of Extreme switches, routers, and wireless technologies
• Must possess Extreme Networks Certified Specialist Certification
• Heavy experience with Extreme routers and switches (ERS/EXOS/VSP)
• Strong experience with SPB (Fabric)
• Strong Experience with Extreme XIQ-SE, ExtremeCloudIQ, and Extreme Control.
• Strong knowledge of Layer 2, Layer 3 routing protocols VRRP, VXLAN, BGP, OSPF etc.
• Strong knowledge of security protocols and best practices
• RF Experience in Wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n
• Data Center routing and switching experience preferred
• Extensive experience with network security technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, and IDS/IPS
• Proficiency in network virtualization technologies such as VLANs, VXLANs, and MPLS
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and resolution
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders
• Current ECS certification is requiredRole & responsibilities
