Data Analyst

Summary

The Data Analyst s role is to analyze, specify and validate the business needs of the organizations. In this role, the Data Analyst will play a key part in the design, development, and launch efficient business, financial, and operations systems in support of core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. The Data Analyst is also responsible for supporting the development process, and ensuring that project deliverables are met according to specifications. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT system investments.

Required Qualifications

• College diploma or university degree in software engineering, computer science, or business administration or equivalent work experience
• 5 or more years as a data analyst (Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development)
• Advanced SQL Experience
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience with Data Mapping
• Experience with Data Modeling
• Experience with large scale data migrations
• Familiarity with sourcing data from Data Warehouse and data mining
• Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language
• Proven data analysis, data verification, and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent PC skills and technical fluency
• Familiarity with software and database development and network architecture
• Experience with formal project management methodologies
• Exemplary attention to detail

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with core software applications, including MS CRM, Sharepoint , MS GP, SQL Server 2005 and above
• Experience writing and managing QlikView reports
• Experience writing and managing SSRS reports
• Experience importing data for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flow charts
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
• Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
• Ability to be self-motivating and work independently
• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Essential Functions

• Meets with executive leadership, decision makers, business owners, technical owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals
• Collaborates with project managers and project sponsors to determine project scope and vision
• Identifies project stakeholders and establish roles and responsibilities (process owners, change champions, etc.)
• Conducts interviews and data analysis to document requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods
• Develops and utilizes standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirement specifications
• Analyzes and verifies requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards
• Identifies and establishes scope and parameters of requirements analysis in order to define impact, outcome criteria, and measure-taking actions
• C ollect s , interpret s , and perform s analysis across large data sets and relational databases
• Translates conceptual user requirements into data transformation or reporting requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers/project team
• Provides quality assurance of imported data, working with developers and DBA s as needed
• Develops reports to support data integrity and normalization
• Evaluates changes and updates to source system and their impacts to existing data framework
• Identifies and establishes scope and parameters of requirements analysis in order to define impact, outcome criteria, and measure-taking actions
• Works with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements
• Creates process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or the project team
• Develops and conducts peer reviews to ensure that requirement specifications are correctly interpreted
• Manages and track s the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; enforce and redefine as necessary
• Communicates changes, enhancements, and modifications verbally or through written documentation project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood
• Researches, reviews, and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements-gathering processes and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes
• Assists in conducting research on software and hardware products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts
• Establishes practices and procedures that work towards the continuous improvement of the requirements process
• Provides guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members
