Works Manager (Machine Tool industry)

The Works Manager in the Machine Tool Industry is responsible for overseeing the production operations, ensuring the efficient manufacturing of precision machine tools, and meeting customer specifications. The role involves supervising all activities related to machining, assembly, and quality control while ensuring compliance with industry standards. The Works Manager will lead a team to meet production goals, improve processes, and maintain safety standards.

Role & responsibilities

1. Production Oversight:

• Plan, organize, and manage the daily operations of machining, assembly, and testing to ensure timely and cost-effective production
• Ensure that all machine tool production goals and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are met, focusing on precision, quality, and efficiency.

2. Team Management:

• Supervise and lead a team of machinists, CNC operators, engineers, and assembly technicians.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to staff to improve performance, technical skills, and safety awareness.
• Develop training programs and ensure that staff are updated on the latest machine tool technologies and manufacturing techniques.

3. Oversee regular safety audits, risk assessments, and machine maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and avoid workplace accidents.

4. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations specific to the machine tool industry.

5. Oversee the management of raw materials, tooling, and machine parts required for production, ensuring the correct stock levels to avoid production delays.

6.Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely delivery of materials and spare parts.

Qualification and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience (5+ years) in managing production operations in the machine tool or precision manufacturing industry.
• In-depth knowledge of CNC machining, milling, turning, and other machining processes.
• Strong understanding of precision engineering, tooling, and machining techniques.
• Experience in leading and developing teams in a manufacturing environment.
