API Engineer (Java & Python)

We are seeking a highly skilled API Engineer with strong expertise in Java (primary) and Python (secondary) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and high-performing APIs that integrate seamlessly with various systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions for complex business challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Design & Development: Build, enhance, and maintain APIs using Java and Python, ensuring they meet performance, scalability, and reliability requirements.
• Integration: Develop APIs to facilitate seamless integration between internal and external systems, services, and platforms.
• Collaboration: Work with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define API specifications and implement robust solutions.
• Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in APIs, ensuring low latency and high availability.
• Testing & Documentation: Write unit and integration tests for APIs, and create comprehensive technical documentation.
• Security: Implement secure API practices, including authentication, authorization, and data encryption.
• Debugging & Support: Troubleshoot and debug issues in production and pre-production environments.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, best practices, and industry trends related to APIs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Programming Expertise:
• Proficiency in Java (Spring Framework/Spring Boot is a plus).
• Strong understanding of Python for API development (e.g., Flask, FastAPI, or Django REST Framework).
• API Development:
• Extensive experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with GraphQL and gRPC is a plus.
• Microservices: Experience with microservices architecture, containerization (e.g., Docker), and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
• Tools & Frameworks:
• Hands-on experience with API gateways (e.g., Kong, Apigee) and documentation tools like Swagger/OpenAPI.
• Proficiency in using version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Database Knowledge: Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis).
• Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP), especially API Gateway, Lambda Functions, and related tools.
• Testing: Strong skills in writing test cases using tools like Postman, JUnit, pytest, or similar.
• Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a collaborative Agile environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with asynchronous messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Knowledge of API security standards like OAuth2, JWT, and SAML.
• Hands-on experience with logging and monitoring tools (e.g., ELK Stack, Prometheus, Datadog).

Education & Experience

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in API development with Java and Python.
