Role Definition
Supports process development projects for the continuous improvement of the safety, quality, velocity and cost of manufacturing.

Specific Role
This role will be a lead project engineer in the Manufacturing Technology and Solutions supporting projects for Resource Industries products and facilities worldwide from India.


Responsibilities
Providing technical expertise and guidance in major manufacturing projects, working with internal/external suppliers to support/improve manufacturing productivity and cost effectiveness.
Implementing major systems and the coordination of those systems with the total plant.
Communicating with suppliers to analyze their current or proposed product/process designs to determine feasibility of using existing designs or modifying the designs to improve process and/or product.
Providing guidance to manufacturing engineers and operators in order to develop high quality products and processes.

Level Working Knowledge:
Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives.
Examines a specific problem and understands the perspective of each involved stakeholder.
Develops alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information.
Helps to analyze risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution.
Uses fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems.

Judgment and Decision Making: Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
Level Extensive Experience:
Seeks input from multiple sources to generate diverse ideas for decision making.
Sustains organization strategies over time by accurately analyzing tradeoffs in changing direction or staying the course.
Makes decisions that remain defensible beyond the short term.
Communicates decisions confidently and resolutely.
Remains steadfast in championing others decisions that later come under scrutiny.
Coaches others to improve judgment and confidence in decision making skills.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Level Basic Understanding:
Identifies project management tools and requirements within own function.
Describes the key objectives, phases and deliverables of a current project.
Explains the concepts of phase, activity, task, and deliverable.
Gives examples of critical paths in projects.

Manufacturing Best Practices and Standards: Knowledge of best practices and standards for improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of the design, production, and distribution of manufacturing products; ability to create and implement best practices and standards for various manufacturing processes and activities.
Level Basic Understanding:
Cites examples of industry best practices and their relevance to the organization.
Identifies the expected benefits of implementing best practices.
Locates and interprets best practice documentation and information sources.
Names the manufacturing processes that can be streamlined from the implementation of best practices.

Manufacturing Process Design and Development: Knowledge of how to develop or design a manufacturing process; ability to establish and determine which processes and parameters should be opted to improve functionality and costs.
Level Basic Understanding:
Cites examples of successful design or development of manufacturing processes.
Lists essential steps in designing a manufacturing process.
Records and documents any data related to manufacturing processes.
Understands the purpose of process design in manufacturing.

Capacity Planning & Management - MFG: Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices for determining production demand and ability to manage resources needed to provide satisfactory levels of service.
Level Working Knowledge:
Documents major considerations of product promotions and analyzes their effect on production and required capacity.
Provides management reports on actual and projected capacity requirements.
Uses available tools to interpret forecasts and work out required capacity.
Participates in developing short-term capacity requirements for a specific product or plant.
Collects and collates key elements of demand chain used in developing capacity requirements.

Change Control - MFG: Knowledge of the processes and procedures by which a change is identified, evaluated, approved, monitored and documented; ability to manage changes in the production environment and processes effectively.
Level Basic Understanding:
Explains the basic purpose of change control and consequences of lack of control.
Identifies common changes to manufacturing equipment, technologies and systems.
Describes the process for introducing any change to a production environment.
Describes the associated communication requirements, activities and authorization levels.

Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
Level Working Knowledge:
Discusses considerations for work cell design and effectiveness monitoring.
Finds solution for key technical and people problems associated with transformation to lean.
Explains issues and considerations of implementing lean in own function or area.
Selects and utilizes tools, techniques and measurements associated with a lean assessment.
Explains benchmarks and measures of effectiveness of lean.
