Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities


Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavior.

  • Health, Safety, and Wellbeing: Lead the promotion of Health, Safety, and Wellbeing by implementing the Keeping Everyone Safe Program and notifying the Director of concerns.
  • Primary Caregiver: Build relationships with a small group of children and their families. Staff Support: Assist in the induction and mentoring of staff, contribute to performance appraisals, and provide regular observations and feedback.
  • Behavior and Expectations: Encourage and model appropriate behavior and expectations.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Lead and promote the Diversity and Inclusion Policy.
  • Special Needs and Inclusion: Demonstrate good practice regarding special needs and inclusion.
  • Relationship Building: Lead positive relationships in the setting.
  • Center Management: Work with staff to manage the smooth running of the center.
  • Parent Partnership: Lead and promote parent partnership.
  • Supervision: Ensure children are supervised at all times.
  • Center Promotion: Actively promote the center to current and potential families.
  • Professional Development: Attend and encourage team members to attend training sessions for continuing professional development.
  • Safety and Wellbeing: Ensure children's holistic needs are met consistently.
  • Nutrition and Food Safety: Ensure children's nutritional needs are met and food safety policies are complied with.
  • Primary Caregiver Support: Support Primary Caregivers in their role.
  • Curriculum Development: Work with the Program Coordinator to evaluate and improve the curriculum and environment.
  • Child Involvement: Promote children's involvement in planning.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and effective children's records.
  • Staffing Ratios: Maintain staffing ratios in accordance with center requirements.
  • Action Planning: Develop action plans with room teaching staff and monitor progress Child
  • Protection: Understand child protection issues and respond proactively.
  • Special Educational Needs: Implement Special Educational needs policies and procedures.
  • Room Transitions: Organize room transitions by leading planning and communication with parents, children, and staff.
  • Confidentiality: Uphold confidentiality relating to all work matters.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to support planning using the Teaching Strategies framework.
  • Observations: Undertake observations to support and extend children's learning.
  • Assessments: Assess children through written observations and organize completion of observations by other staff

Desired Candidate Profile

  • 1-5 years of experience in teaching nursery or pre-primary education.
  • Strong knowledge of pedagogy principles and practices in early childhood education.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team towards common goals.
