Job Description: Business Development API Sales


Department: Business Development
Location: Mumbai, India
Reports To: Director Business Development


Position Summary:

The Business Development API Sales will lead the sales and business development activities for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) in regulated and ROW (Rest of the World) markets. This role demands a seasoned professional with extensive experience in API sales, a deep understanding of global markets, and the ability to drive strategic growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales and Business Development:

  • Develop and implement strategies to drive API sales growth in regulated (e.g., US, EU) and ROW markets.
  • Build and expand the customer base by identifying and engaging new clients, distributors, and partners.
  • Lead the negotiation and closure of key business deals, ensuring long-term relationships and revenue growth.

Market Analysis and Strategy:

  • Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape in the API segment.
  • Develop tailored solutions and offerings to meet customer demands and differentiate BDR Pharmaceuticals in the market.
  • Formulate and execute business plans to achieve revenue and profitability targets.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, regulatory, and supply chain, to ensure seamless execution of sales strategies.
  • Work closely with manufacturing units to ensure timely delivery and quality assurance of APIs.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members to enhance their performance and capabilities.

Regulatory and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and quality requirements in global markets.
  • Coordinate with regulatory teams to support product registrations and documentation for various markets.

Key Account Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers to foster repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Address client queries, concerns, and feedback promptly to ensure customer satisfaction.

Performance Monitoring:

  • Track and analyze sales performance metrics, providing regular updates and recommendations to the Director Business Development.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Science, or a related field. An MBA in Marketing or International Business will be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 20+ years of experience in API sales, with a proven track record of success in regulated and ROW markets.
  • Extensive experience in handling large clients and closing complex business deals in global markets.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of the API industry, including market trends, customer needs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data and develop actionable business plans.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools, sales analytics, and market research methodologies.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Achievement of revenue and profitability targets for API sales.
  • Growth in customer base and market share in regulated and ROW markets.
  • Customer satisfaction and retention metrics.
  • Successful execution of business development initiatives and strategic goals.
