Consultant - Vitreo Retina

Key Responsibilities:

1. Diagnosis and Evaluation :

   • Examine the Retina : Using specialized tools like fundus photography , optical coherence tomography (OCT) , and fluorescein angiography , a vitreo-retina consultant assesses the health of the retina, optic nerve, and vitreous.
   • Diagnose Retinal Conditions : Conditions like diabetic retinopathy , age-related macular degeneration (AMD) , macular holes , retinal tears or detachment , retinal vein occlusions , and inherited retinal diseases .
   • Assess Vision Loss : Evaluating causes of vision impairment due to retinal conditions.

2. Treatment and Management :

   • Medical Treatments : Prescribing medications to treat retinal conditions, such as anti-VEGF injections (to treat conditions like wet AMD) or steroid injections .
   • Laser Treatment : Performing laser procedures like laser photocoagulation to treat diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, or macular edema.
   • Surgical Interventions : Performing advanced surgeries like vitrectomy (removal of the vitreous gel) or retinal detachment repair to reattach a detached retina.
   • Injection Therapies : Administering injections of medications directly into the eye to treat conditions like wet AMD, diabetic macular edema, or retinal vein occlusions.
