Role, Duties & Responsibilities of the Principal:
A. Administrative:
1. The Principal will function as the Head of the school under his/her charge and carry out all Academic and Administrative duties of the school.
2. The Principal will coordinate administrative oversight and plan all phases of instructional leadership for the school including educational programme, administration, budgetary planning, disciplinary and counselling services.
3. Will ensure that all provisions of the Affiliation and Examination Bye-laws and all instructions given by the CBSE Board from time to time are strictly complied with.
4. Will be responsible for applying, follow-up, and obtaining all requisite statutory permissions e.g. trade licence, fire licence, NOC from local bodies pertaining to building, potable water, hygiene & sanitary etc., affiliation/registration of the CBSE Board and the appropriate Govt. Department(s). And to obtain any other permissions, as and when required, from any agency/ Govt. Dept/Statutory bodies.
5. Will have an understanding and reviewing the way the school and its departments function.
6. Will assist with the hiring and recruitment of new teachers & other staff while selection of candidate(s) by the Head- Education of Bandhan-Konnagar (BK) and conduct training for new teachers and other staff of the school.
7. Will plan, instruct and monitor the Business Development Executives (BDEs) under his/her control for proactive marketing of the admission programme for the session day to day basis, and will make all efforts to achieve the intake target for the respective academic session as to be proposed by the Head- Education, BK. A report to this effect is to be submitted to the Head- Education, BK time to time for his perusal.
8. Will oversee and ensure safety & security arrangements of the school and report any abnormality or shortcomings the Head- Education, BK.
9. Will be responsible for the proper maintenance of accounts of the school, school records, service records/books of teachers & other staff, and such other registers, returns and statistics (including old documents/ records/ closed files) as may be specified by the Head- Education, BK/ CBSE Board/ Management Committee.
10. Will handle official correspondence relating to the school and furnish, as and when required, within the specified dates, the returns and information required by the State Govt./ CBSE Board/ Management Committee/ Head- Education, BK.
11. Will make satisfactory arrangements for the supply of good drinking water and provide other facilities for the students and ensure the school building, its fixture and furniture, office equipment, lavatories, play grounds, school garden and other properties are properly and carefully maintained.
12. Will ensure the maintenance of the school property (Fixed Assets Register) and stock registers neatly and accurately. And will conduct physical verification of school property and stock at least once in six month. A report to this effect is to be submitted to the Head- Education, BK.
13. Will coordinate with transporter(s)/ transport facility provider(s) for an arrangement of transport agreement and finalise a plan for smooth functioning transport fleet for the desired students of the school.
14. Will establish and maintain good relationship with parents, students, teachers and other staff of the school.
15. Will conduct the Parent-Teachers Meet (PTM) effectively in a regular manner and take corrective actions as a follow-up process.
16. The Principal shall not refuse any duty assigned by the Head- Education, BK/ CBSE Board. The Principal shall act as a Centre Superintendent and shall not delegate his/ her authority, duties and responsibilities to any other person under any circumstances without prior approval of the Head- Education, BK.
17. Will hand over the charge with the detailed job to be performed in his/ her absence to the next senior teacher of the school (in the absence of Vice Principal position) while on leave/ outstation duties, and an intimation to this effect is to be given to the Head- Education in writing forthwith.
B. Financial:
1. Will be the drawing and disbursing officer for the expenses incurred for local purchases of stores and materials or any emergency requirement for the school, as may be specified by the Head- Education, BK.
2. Will prepare fair allocation of budget in consultation with the Head- Education, BK and Manager- Accounts at BK. Ensure proper utilisation of fund as per approved allocation of budget.
3. Will be responsible for proper collection of fee(s). And will maintain money receipt book(s) for all transactions in properly manner and realise with cash/ bank account statement.
4. Will ensure proper entry of stores in stock register and shall scrutinise the bills and make payments. Ensure entries of all receipts and expenses in the Petty-Cash Register of the school neatly and accurately at all times.
5. Will make purchases of stores and other materials required for the school in accordance with the procedure governing such purchases and approval by Head- Education, BK.
6. Will raise requisition(s) for procurement of item(s) and materials, including printing, stationery, cleaning & other materials for the school, as per stipulated format, well in advance not later than 27th of every month, with justification of requirement and forward the same to the Head- Education, BK for approval. A status report on procurement of such item(s)/ materials (mentioning status e.g. completed, partially-completed, pending etc. against each requisition) is to be forwarded to the Head- Education, BK in every month.
C. Pedagogical Leadership:
1. Will supervise, guide and control the work of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school.
2. Will ensure a productive learning environment through continual collaboration with teachers, students and parents.
3. Will be in-charge of admission in the school, preparation of school timetable, allocation of duties and teaching load to the teachers, and shall provide necessary facilities to the teachers for the discharge of their duties and conduct of school examination in accordance with the instructions issued by the Government/ CBSE Board from time to time.
4. Will plan the years academic work in advance in consultation of with his/her colleagues and forward the same to the Head- Education, BK for perusal and necessary approval.
5. Will hold teachers/staff meeting at least once a month, review the work done during the month and assess the progress of the students. A monthly report on the school’s activities, infrastructural development work, receipt & expense statement and other matters is to be submitted to the Head- Education, BK on the last working day of the respective month.
6. Will help and guide the teachers to promote their professional growth and actively encourage their participation in courses designed for in-service education.
7. Will promote the initiative of the teachers for self-improvement and encourage them to undertake pedagogical and other innovations which are educationally sound.
8. Will supervise class room teaching and secure cooperation and coordination amongst teachers of the same subject areas as well as inter subject coordination.
9. Will arrange for special remedial teaching of the children belonging to the weaker sections of the community also of other children who need such remedial teaching.
10. Will arrange for informal and non-class room teaching for the students.
11. Will plan and specify a regular time-table for the scrutiny of the students’ written work and home assignment and ensure that the assessment and corrections are carried out timely and effectively.
12. Will do necessary arrangement for organising special instructions for the students according to their needs.
13. Will organise and coordinate various co-curricular activities through the house system or in such other effective ways as he/she may think fit.
14. Will develop and organise the library resources and reading facilities in the school and ensure that the students and teachers have access to and use of the books and journals of established value and usefulness.
15. Will send regularly the progress reports of the students to their parents or guardians.
16. Will promote the physical well being of the students, ensure high standard of cleanliness and health habits, and arrange periodical medical examinations of the students and send medical reports to parents or guardians.
17. Will devote at least one period per day to teaching of the students.
18. Will be responsible for sending teachers for the evaluation of answer scripts in respect of examinations and other duties related to academics, training and conduct of examinations as per requirements of the CBSE Board from time to time.
