Key Responsibilities:

• Fire Safety and Prevention: Ensuring the facility adheres to stringent fire safety protocols is crucial. This includes conducting regular inspections of fire suppression systems, ensuring that all safety equipment is functional, and identifying and mitigating potential fire hazards specific to chemical processes and materials.
• Work Permit Issuance and Management: Overseeing and managing work permits for hazardous tasks is essential. Firefighters in this context may be involved in issuing permits for activities such as hot work (welding, cutting), confined space entry, or other high-risk operations, ensuring that all safety measures are in place before work begins.
• Emergency Response and Fire Suppression: Responding to and managing emergency situations, including fires, chemical spills, and other incidents. This involves quickly assessing the situation, deploying appropriate fire suppression techniques, and coordinating with other emergency services to mitigate the impact and ensure safety.
• Training and Drills: Conducting and participating in regular training sessions and emergency drills. This ensures that all personnel are well-prepared for potential emergencies, understand the specific risks associated with the chemicals and processes in use, and know how to respond effectively to various emergency scenarios.
• Safety Inspections and Audits: EHS personnel conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards in the workplace. This includes examining machinery, processes, and work environments to ensure they meet safety standards and regulations.
• Safety Training and Education: They develop and implement safety training programs for employees to promote awareness of safety procedures and protocols. This training covers topics such as emergency response, hazard communication, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Accident Investigation and Reporting: When accidents or near-misses occur, EHS personnel investigate the causes to determine what went wrong and how similar incidents can be prevented in the future. They also ensure that all incidents are properly documented and reported as required by regulatory bodies.
• Environmental Compliance: EHS personnel monitor factory operations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits. This includes managing waste disposal; emissions control and implementing measures to reduce the factory's environmental footprint.
• Emergency Preparedness: They develop and maintain emergency response plans to address potential emergencies such as fires, chemical spills, or natural disasters. This includes conducting drills, training employees on emergency procedures, and ensuring that necessary safety equipment and resources are readily available.
