This role involves assisting with imaging procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort, managing imaging equipment, and maintaining accurate records. The Associate in Radiology & Imaging Sciences plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in the field of diagnostic imaging. Responsibilities : Patient Care and Safety : Prepare patients for imaging procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process. Obtain patient histories, explain procedures, and address any concerns or questions. Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a safe environment. Imaging Procedures : Assist radiologists and technologists in performing various imaging procedures, such as X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and nuclear medicine scans. Position patients correctly, apply immobilization devices, and adjust imaging equipment settings. Equipment Management : Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of imaging equipment. Perform routine quality control checks and report any equipment malfunctions or abnormalities. Collaborate with the appropriate personnel for equipment repairs and maintenance. Patient Data and Records : Accurately record patient information, imaging protocols, and procedures performed. Enter patient data into the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection regulations. Radiology Support : Assist radiologists with image interpretation, including preparing images for review, annotating findings, and facilitating communication with referring physicians. Provide administrative support, such as scheduling appointments, managing patient files, and coordinating radiology reports. Radiation Safety : Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols and guidelines during imaging procedures. Practice proper radiation protection measures, including the use of lead aprons, shields, and radiation monitoring devices. Patient Education : Educate patients about imaging procedures, preparation instructions, and potential risks or side effects. Address patient questions and concerns, providing reassurance and maintaining open communication throughout the process. Quality Assurance : Participate in quality assurance activities, such as maintaining accreditation standards, implementing quality control measures, and participating in performance improvement initiatives. Contribute to maintaining a high standard of patient care and safety. Continuing Education : Stay updated on advancements, trends, and best practices in radiology and imaging sciences through continuing education programs, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Apply acquired knowledge and skills to enhance patient care and contribute to the field. Requirements : Education and Certification : Associate degree or equivalent in Radiologic Technology or a related field. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or relevant national certification is preferred. Licensing : Valid state license or certification as required to practice radiologic technology. Comply with all state and federal licensing requirements. Knowledge of Imaging Techniques : Familiarity with various imaging modalities, including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. Understanding of imaging protocols, positioning techniques, and equipment operation. Patient Care Skills : Strong interpersonal skills and ability to provide compassionate patient care. Ability to interact effectively with patients of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of health. Technical Proficiency : Proficient in using imaging equipment and computer systems, including PACS and EMR. Ability to adapt to new technology and software applications. Attention to Detail : Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in positioning patients, acquiring images, and recording patient data. Team Collaboration : Ability to work collaboratively with radiologists, technologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care and smooth workflow. Communication Skills : Effective verbal and written communication skills to explain procedures, provide instructions, and address patient concerns.
