Job Description

We are looking for a high performing team member who can take responsibility for the 3D drafting of buildings and objects. The ideal candidate will be a hard-working and professional member of the team, with the ability to undertake a variety of support tasks and to work diligently when under pressure. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, multitasking, decision-making, interpersonal and organizational skills. This person will be comfortable working with a high degree of attention to detail and discretion, and have the ability to determine and incorporate new and effective ways to achieve better results. The candidate must be comfortable performing duties under minimal supervision and strict deadlines.


Who is a draftsperson?

A draftsperson or a drafter is a skilled professional who produces technical drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

Responsibilities:

An Entry-Level Draftsperson generates 2D drawings and 3D models of architectural spaces and objects using autoCAD, SketchUp, REVIT or a similar software. The 3D models allow for the accurate representation of spaces and objects. Their responsibilities are generally the following:

  • Develop an accurate scale for technical drawings to allow for accurate calculations/estimates of the dimensions and quantities of physical components.
  • Manage and archive building schematics.
  • Coordinate with other CAD team members to discuss the requirements necessary to complete technical drawings and illustrate designs.
  • Manage time and seek appropriate direction to efficiently deliver high quality and accurate drawings before deadlines.

1. Technical Drawing and Design

  • Create detailed 2D and/or 3D technical drawings of plans and elevations using computer aided design software.
  • Translate conceptual designs and sketches into accurate and precise technical drawings for manufacturing or construction.

2. Collaboration with Other Teams

  • Work closely with project partners to understand design requirements and specifications.
  • Incorporate manufacturing and engineering specifications and standards into design drawings.

3. Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with project managers and peers to meet project goals.
  • Revise drawings as needed to address feedback and changes during the project lifecycle.

4. Quality Control

  • Conduct thorough reviews of drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with design standards.
  • Address discrepancies or issues in collaboration with engineering and project teams.

5. Documentation

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation of design processes and changes.
  • Create and organize drawing archives for future reference.

6. Software Proficiency

  • Stay current with industry-standard design software and tools.
  • Utilize advanced features of design software to enhance productivity and efficiency.

7. Communication

  • Effectively communicate drafting challenges to peers and managers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate design requirements.

8. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains in the design and drafting workflow.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and new technologies relevant to design and drafting.
  • Manage the technical coordination to incorporate any owner related changes in project scope.
  • Assist with updating architectural drawings, HVAC drawings, electrical drawings and contractor's 'as-built' drawings on an as-need basis.
  • Produce complex 3D models and 2D production drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD R14, SketchUp etc.
  • Prepare detail 3D drawings using Revit and other coordination software (Navisworks, Revizto)
  • Preform computer modeling of the topography.
  • Create, maintain, and enter information into BIM databases.
  • Mentore less experience BIM designers in different parts of the country over the phone.

SCHEDULE

Monday to Friday (varies)

  • Occasionally work 40+ hours in a week to meet certain team milestones

  • Experience in shop fabrication will be given preference.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to design and drafting.
  • Ongoing pursuit of architectural degree or a related field or experience in drafting preferred.

Proficiency in:

  • AutoCAD, REVIT, SketchUp and other 2D and 3D software.
  • Database software and management applications
  • Digital communications tools like email, chat etc.

Education and Credential Requirements

Mandatory

  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent

Preferred

  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in drafting and 3D modeling
    OR
    An Associate Degree in drafting.
